what am i doing wrong with my ppm HELP

Discussion in 'Advanced Growing Techniques' started by okierandy58, Sep 22, 2012.

  1. OK I added pure blend grow to water. My water reads 200 PPM before adding. So from what I was told, add grow till the PPM reads 1100 ( 900 PPM grow plus 200 PPm water). The I added cal-mag which is suppose to be around 434 PPm yet after adding more than the recommended measured amount, the PPM didn't rise as much as it should (1200) so I added the karma 120 PPM. Again the total ppm was around 1200 ppm. This doesn't makes sense to me. Please help. I added this link which botanicare uses for their nutrient guide. Please help me... I am useing 37 galloons H2O Nutrient Calculator

  2. Ummm, so the problem is that your ppms aren't adding up to what the site says they should???

Be present with your plants, be aware of what you actually have, not what it is claimed to be, and you will do well. Forget their thing, make your own chart if you must. Sounds like you are doing fine, just go off of what your actual plants do and need, not what they are supposed to do and need.

  3. This is my first using hydro. There are so many opinions. I think I have a mag or Phosphorus probloem, according to the nutrient problem solver. I think I have really messed up my small little grow. Sad here

  4. It would be either one or the other. A phosphorous problem would cause the plant veins to turn red and also stunt the growth. Magnesium probs include yellowing and leaf curl especially curl upward at the base of the plant. Secondary nutrients shld be topped off at 30 percent rec. Strength u will kill your cannabis trying to use 100 percent solution.

  5. First....ignore the manufactures suggested PPMs and start with about 25% of their suggestion...if your plants thrive start upping it a little at a time....less is way better than too much with your nutes as I learned the hard way some time back

  6. OK, a few questions.

Are you using TAP water? And if so, why are you using a cal-mag product? Those should only be used with r.o. water as the process removes most of the calcium and magnesium in the tap.

Liquid Karma? Why are you using this product if you dont understand nutrient basics? Cut all additives for good, or at least till you learn how to use base nutrients only.

What conversion does your meter use to measure EC? .5 or .7 ? Alot of grows have been ruined due to people attempting to copy someones ppm suggestions. You need to find out what your meter is converting at. A .5 conversion will read much lower ppm and will have you frying your plants in no time trying to match someone else's ppm suggestions.

Grow and Bloom should be used in conjunction with each other. I recommend adding at the manufacturer's suggested ratio even if not at the listed strength.

    I wouldnt go over 1000 ppm on a .7 conversion or 700 on a .5

Here is a chart to give you an idea just how different the readings can be.
