like the title says...are flood light ok for grouwing? and also when choosing bagseed is there a way to tell which seeds are better than others?
Flood lights dont put out either of the blue or red spectrum needed for plants. Your better of getitng a bunch of 27 watt daylight CFL`s.
flood light is okay for a week or so just to get them started. put seeds in a dixie cup with water... if they sprout in 3 or 4 days they are good... (usually darkest seeds) ^from my experience
If you are talking any kind of incandescent bulb, don't use it, they put out the wrong spectrum and produce way too much heat and way too little light for the energy they consume. Stick to CFLs or HIDs. Viable seeds are brown or grey and do not crackle when you roll them firmly between thumb and finger. Avoid seeds that are black, white, or green, or any that are cracked. Makes no difference as to size, spots or stripes or none.
