What’s the main factor to make HIGH THC?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by rino360, Sep 3, 2012.

  1. I'm a beginner and I've just harvest my third crop (Afghan)
If you could look at the pic my buds has pretty much trichomes on the surface.
(spent five month on flowering stage)
But when I smoked it I just can't say it's potent comparing to things I get from the streets. (If the street product has 10%THC I feel like my buds doesn't even have 5%THC)

    My growing environment is

    Growroom : 30 "* 30 "* 60 " sealed with mirror film
    Light : 45w LED Panel , 100w LED UFO
    Air : PC FANx2, 10”FANx1 24hours Circulation
    System : Drip Hydroponic(WaterFarm)x1 bubbles every 5minutes
    Nutrients: Local Farmer

I kind of know that the main factor of making good weed is the seed strain and powerful light.
Which I think my light is doing not bad but my seed is not bought from a proper seed bank (It was some site called MARIJUANA-SEEDS.NL) and another query is that I use nutrients which I buy from the local Hydroponic tomato farmer(He says its Professional use for growing big tomatoes…but never asked him how good for weed)

So I'm kinda stuck with which way I should spend first to increase my “HIGH”.
The nutes I use are mix of three powders and when I feed my plant it's about 7bucks for 20gallon average

I still have a white widow seed which I haven't tried yet so I wanted to ask if there's any big difference if I change all the nutrients to something like advanced nutrients Jungle Juice series or just adding BIG BUD to my existing nutrients.

Or should I start from buying some seeds directly from trusted seed banks like “Nirvana” “Sensi” or “Greenhouse”??

I also have a problem with the grow light which the LED panel I got recently is too big and I can't hang it from the top. Would it have the same result if I hang it to the side of the growing room to add lights to the bottom of the plant?

    Any advisement will be appreciated.

  2. I would say that the 5 month flowering probably hurt your quality a bit. Once you pass that peak time for harvest quality only goes down.

  3. Gotta be the seeds, although that's where I get most of mine and they"ve never been anything other than what they advertise.

  4. All my grows have been far more potent than any bud I have gotten off the street. However my street bud and your street bud is not necessarily equal.

every grow I have had has been very potent, so I'm not sure what factors really make the difference. I think general healthiness has to be a factor. I always grow with cfls so I think as long as it get enough light its fine, but using big lights won't guarantee you any more potency.

Perhaps your LEDs are your problem. Have you ever grown with anything else? I have never seen an LED grow that has impressed me. The plants never look like they are thriving. I have never used them myself however

genetics is the obvious one but I have grown bag seed that has been far more potent than the weed it came in. I use a few different flowering boosters, this may help. Sometimes the effect of these boosters are all in my head though

fast growing, a good wet/dry cycle and a happy plant will get good results I believe. This is what I aim for

wait what? 5 months flowering? what do you mean exactly?

  5. The number 1 factor in making good bud is the genetics of the seed. So while you can't make kind bud out of a crap seed, you can mess up a grow and have subpar weed from an excellent seed.
Without any other info, I'd have to blame that 5 month flowering stage. 8-10 weeks is the norm, sometimes a little longer for some sativa strains. The pic of the bud looks overcooked and sad.
I'm an LED user myself and have no complaints. You can't trust their advertised claims (90Watt UFO does not = 400Watt HPS), but you should have sufficient light in there to grow decent buds. Definitely hang that panel on the sides, but still aim it at the canopy. I do the same thing with 2 UFOs and have my big light on top. I prune the bottom growth of early in flowering, at that point the plant won't respond with any more vegetative growth and instead focuses all the growing energy into the canopy buds.

  6. 1. Genetics
    2. Harvest Time
    3. Processing

  7. I use LED's. 180w UFO. Great results. Get a microscope from 420 jars, etc. and check trichomes. You are flowering too long. I usually chop when they are 50/50 cloudy and amber. I learned the hard way on my first grow about light (too close, yes you can burn your plants with a LED too close to the tops, 1' minimum!).

  8. Thanks everyone!!

I was using a 100x scope and watching the trichomes until they get 50/50 cloudy and amber. as a result that took me about 5month to harvest from flowering. don't know why it took so long tho.

Anyway now I understood that I have to buy some proper seeds from the seed bank.
I have to thank you guys very much because I would have did a wrong investment if I didn't ask here...

  9. Your flowered way to long.If you do that the THC degrades raipidly only weeks past prime harvest.Mosty weed is done between 8-12 weeks.

Learn this to learn when to harvest your stuff.Pictures on When to Harvest - Trichome colours

By a jewlers loop or hand held microscope to see trichomes.

  10. I've read some weed doesnt always have the same trichome changes.Just figure a minimun of 8 weeks max 11-12 on most strians.

  11. I'm surprised the plants lived that long. I figured not long after the bud ripens the plant dies back. I have never left a plant that long so I wouldn't know. I think you left it budding about 3 months too long

  12. Now that you mention it good point.Weird.

  13. you grew some bad weed. ditch that strain ASAP. and call that company back and tell them to discontinue it and exterminate all the seeds. let us know how the white widow goes.

  14. How can you blame the seed/strain? It's probably some bomb in ideal conditions, his was just harvested way too late, and looks like he barely trimmed it making his bud/leaf ratio off the charts. It's no wonder it doesn't get you as high as you'd like.

  15. lol true that, 5 months of flowering. GOOD LERD

...and the dumbass comment of the year goes to this fella :hello:
lol . How can you possibly make the assumption that it was the seeds fault?
