Wet Bud for Butter?

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by Tnes, Nov 11, 2020.

  1. I've been seeing everyone say that wet bud WILL work, however there's several differences in potency an decarbing opinions so that's more the question? Can you get potent edibles with fresh buds, and if so how long would you decarb

  2. I would dry the fresh bud in a food dehydrator or low temperature oven, say 200F, then decarb as usual, 240F for 40 minutes. Good luck and have fun making your edibles.

  3. Wrong.
The wetter it is the worse the extraction will be.
Wet-Just harvested Cannabis needs to be dried and then decarbed before making edible from.
Dry 120-140 F till stone dry. 2 to 4 hours
    Decarb next 240 F for 40 minutes.

Most use the BadKat recipe as it is the best of the best.
5 grams of decarbed Kief or Hash or Powdered buds
    1 tablespoon of Coconut oil
    1/2 teaspoon Lecithin
    Combine
    Heat 220 F for 20 minutes
    Freeze
    Heat 220 F for 20 minutes.
    Done.

[IMG] Coconut oil hits in half the time as butter and all other cooking oils take
    45 minutes for Coconut
2 hours for butter and other oils
Lecithin doubles the effects and duration so you only need half as much.

[IMG] Mine is done with 160 micron dry ice Kief.

  5. Nope. I've been making high strength edible oils for years for my medical condition and I've done it every way possible and made all my mistakes long ago.

  6. Thanks, so at 120 I assume its below the point at which thca starts to turn into thc so maybe some minor effect on potency but overall it'd just dry it out with most the potency still in there

  7. Correct.
Decarb needs temps of 180 F or better. Most of us use the 240 F for 40 minutes as it's fast and gives good results.

  8. I've been playing around with freshly harvested herb.
A good method is to do a coarse grind, spread the herb thinly onto a cookie sheet, then blow a fan on it at room temp for 2-3 hours.
    A food dehydrator takes about 8 hours @ 105.
Carefully weigh the herb and tray before starting, then keep drying until the herb loses about 75% of its wet weight.
Better yet, keep drying until it stops losing weight.

As others have pointed out, the nearly 80% water in fresh herb will screw up decarb and edible making.
