I just started reading the above book. In the preface they mentioned a guy who'd analyzed WW1. I agree with you, except for the Native American part. We do talk about those injustices, but we don't talk about how Native Americans are people, too, and have commited their own share of atrocities. I'm not making excuses, I'm asking how far back should we look before we decide who was evil or noble? I suppose both of those attributes are in us all.

Even if Hitler managed to escape I don't know he would live very long. At this point in the war he was a sick man. One could argue thats why he accelerated the war and his initial tactical prowess faltered over time. When Berlin was falling only top Nazies had a way out. When it comes to Native Americans, here in Canada we're basically taught that the Natives were blameless saints who never broke treaties or attacked settlers, and we slaughtered them all and subjugated the rest. There's revisionist history going on here, but it's not in Colonial favor at all
It makes absolutely no fucking sense to allow that attack to happen, it gave the Japanese a significant (albeit temporary) advantage in the Pacific. I can't see any leader allowing that to happen, if he needed an excuse to go to war, he could have found any number of more convenient ways to get one.
