well by the looks of it

the look and smell give a general idea of its dank factor. Though look are often deceiving, i once got some that look and smelled like schwag so i packed a bunch into my pipe, after about 3 hits i was on my knees. The only way to tell is to smoke it.

 

You know, I'd like to think that I have the gift to read herb by sight, but I've found myself surprised more than once in these many years of toking. I have found, though, that if bud looks real good, than it usually is real good. Sometimes, sh!tty-looking bud is pretty good, too, but not too often. (I sure like the word 'too' tooday.)

i had this weed one time it was wack, you could tell cuz it was dark green and all leafly with a few seeds

 

Usually you can get an idea of how dank it is. But some weed is sneaky.. It'll sneak up on ya, or surprise you with super highness

 

the smell has never done me wrong. if it smells more like clove or something of the sort, its crap. the feel too. like its fluffyness, etc

 

I can tell if its dank from looks.

 

Like most people have said it's usually not too difficult to tell. Just check the density, smell, and texture of the bud. Then again I once bought an ounce of what I assumed to be mids (no seeds or leaf but not real nice lookin/smellin bud) and it suprised the hell outta me when a hit knocked me off my feet.
