Weird Feeling In My Throat

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by Sketchy Newb, Jun 5, 2009.

  1. This hasn't happened in almost a month, but I just want to see if there's any remedies for this in case it happens again

For a couple of months, every time I smoked, it would feel like there was something at the base of my tongue at the very back of my mouth. Every time I swallowed, I could feel it move around. Usually, it wouldn't start out too bad, but as my high continued it would get worse and worse. Soon it would feel like it was just a huge lump in the back of my throat, and it would make swallowing slightly difficult. After an hour or two of this, I would dry heave three or four times over ten or twenty seconds. I've never actually thrown up when this happens, but it always feels like I'm going to. The weird thing, though, is that once the dry heaving is over, the feeling in the back of my throat is gone completely and I don't feel weird any more.

I told a friend about this, and he said it's my uvula (the thing dangling in the back of your throat). My theory is that the increased bloodflow from getting high is filling up my uvula with blood, making it bigger and causing it to rub against my tongue.

Does anyone know what I can do to stop this from ever happening again? Has anyone even heard of something like this before?

  2. That thing always bugs me while and about an hour after smoking, I found drinking something while smoking really helps the dryness, 'cause mine sticks to the top to my mouth at the end of my tongue too.

  3. stop deep throating cock.

  4. lmao +rep

So the obvious solution is to not smoke. Lol. but who wants to do that right? So I would suggest drinking water while smoking or find a less harsh way to smoke your bud. Try a bong instead of joints or blunts. You could even put ice in your bong to make the hit even smoother. I also use filtered water every time I fill my bong, but that's only because I think it tastes better. You could even ask your physician the next time you seem him.
    Anyways, good luck!

Being an ex nurse, I can say that it sounds like your having an allergic reaction, which can potentially be VERY dangerous. If it's not that severe, try taking a benadryl or anything with diphenhydramine (low dose, don't need to get sleepy) and see how that works. I'm just worried that it will get worse, or if you get some goody-goods you might trigger a major reaction. Just because you've smoked before doesn't mean you couldn't have developed a allergy to it. Happens all the time really. I used to love shellfish growing up, but once I hit 18, every time I eat fish i blow up like a balloon.

So... yeah. Try the benadryl and see if that helps.

  6. water is the cure.

  7. yeah... simplest answer is usually best. Kudos to you. haha, I'm high. But seriously if that doesn't work, then try the allergy med.

  8. Hmmm, I didn't know it could be that serious. However, it hasn't happened in a while, so I'm really not sure what to make of it. A few days ago, my doctor told me that I had an elongated uvula while he was doing a check-up. I don't know if that's because of the smoking or if it's always been that way

  9. this person is correct

  10. You have strepthroat, go get some antibiotics

  11. If it's bothering him that much, he should go see a doctor, but it doesn't necessarily mean he has strep throat. He could have just irritated it due to harsh smoke or something. Don't scare the child, haha.

  12. I have had a similar reaction (almost like a lump in my throat; after smoking, escpecially) not to long ago and I went to the doctor. Turns out I have acid reflex and when I take the meds (kapidex) it helps so much and feels basically normal...

Also water does help your throat in any cause!

  13. Just because you have a sore throat doesn't mean you need to create a thread about it:rolleyes:

  14. Your friend is very smart.

  15. Drink something while smoking
Smoke a bong/cool your hits more
If it continues, listen to the nurse and try some allergy meds
It could very well be the combination of increased blood flow and an elongated uvula, though.

  16. What can I say? I'm an attention whore

  17. haha you slut

  18. Take some alevert, or bendryl. some type of allergy medicine should help. It sounds like an allergic reaction.
