Hey everyone I am at one full week of switching the lights to 12/12. I’ve seen these three plants definitely grow new leaves but so far no pistols. Based on the pictures what does it look like to you all? I’ve read it takes up to 2 weeks to start seeing pistols. So far I haven’t seen any yet .
Yep, 2 weeks is about right. Mine are at 8 days today. Your plants look good! A little light green but otherwise ok. I'd give them a bit of magnesium since they appear a little lacking on that.
could it be just the light causing them to look bright green? I have MARshydro ts 2000. I just ordered some calmag, would that work?
Absolutely, the light color can definitely affect the color of green. Just to be sure, turn off the light and take a pic with a flash and upload that. I see just a couple of tips turned downward, an indicator of how much N they have available to them. More than likely, they have enough N to eat. My water is reverse osmosis filtered so I need to add Ca and Mg every watering. I've used Cal/Mag Plus for almost 2 years. So far, in my experience with it, there isn't enough Mg to make the additional salts it adds to the medium worthwhile. If you can get your hands on some food grade Epsom salt, which isn't actually a salt, mix a tablespoon per gallon of it in water and feed the plant. In about a week you'll see the difference. The body of the leaves that are a little lighter than the rest of the leaf will start to be the same color. This will also help with the transportation of P and K to the plant for flower. For calcium, you can use extremely powdered gypsum at about the same ratio.
I have used Crystal Gyser natural spring water to feed them along with Fox Farm trio . I feed them nutes twice a week and only half the dosage as what people are saying too much can cause Nitrogen toxicity which is why I am assuming the tips are showing a bit of claw look (pointing downward) so Cal-Mag isn’t enough to provide magnesium?
You're doing it right. That crystal geyser looks pretty good! Very little content of any minerals. I just haven't been impressed with Botanicare CalMag Plus. I mostly see a Mg deficiency still but never really much of a Ca deficiency. They seem to love the Epsom though. Just a few feedings per veg and flower is all they need.
When you say Epsom salt . Is it just regular Epsom salt for like soaking an aching muscle? I have included a picture of Epsom salt at my local store. Let me know if this is what I need to buy
Another sign your plants are going into flowering correctly other than the obvious pistils is you'll see a insane amount of growth and stretch the first 2-3 weeks. Basically your plants way of building itself up before producing the flowers. Sent from my LM-X420 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Check to see if it is a chemically produced or naturally produced product. I say "food grade" because that tells you it's from a natural source. That one does say it's good for gardening so, its anyone's guess. I'd trust the Lowe's version. It mentions vegetables specifically so they aren't just talking about flower gardening.
okay I’ll get the Lowe’s version. How do you apply? As a spray to foliar feed the leaves? Do I do it early in the morning? Or when the lights are off to avoid residue from the light drying the salt?
In veg, you can use this as foliar spray right before lights out. The same 1 tablespoon per gallon of water ratio. You can use it as a foliar spray at the beginning of flower, but I wouldn't do a spray after week 3. The buds will be starting to form and it could cause other issues. If you just feed the soil, same ratio but you only need to do it once now and once again in a few weeks. You can also get some great calcium by boiling a dozen eggs and saving the water to use with their feed. A gallon of it should be good for about 4 to 6 feedings. It can also be used as a foliar spray, same idea though with veg and flower.
Okay for instance one week has passed during the first 12/12 cycle so are you saying I can only use it once before it reaches the third week of the flowering stage ? Or is this the 3rd week when buds have formed?
I'd use it once now and once more at about week 4 to 5 of flower. Depending on the timing for when the plant should be ready per breeder, and if you plan to flush them, it would be a waste to give it as you're nearing harvest.
I use this Epson salt. My tap water lacks the Mag and I would add about .5-1 tsp per gallon. I sometimes sprinkled it on the soil when watering if I noticed signs of deficiency not getting better. Had great results with it Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Grasscity Forum mobile app
