weed smells like hay?

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by home grown hero, Oct 4, 2010.

  1. harvested on 9-25, dried in dark room with circulating air for 7 days stem snapped when bent put into air tight mason jar take lid off 15minutes everyday and am still getting hay smell? any suggestions?

  2. 7 Days with fan blowing on them? Sounds like you dried that stuff a little too long or a little too fast. Thats what causes the hay smell. Were you checking them everyday? Maybe they were dried sooner than 7 days. If you had a fan on them im sure you would. I wouldnt use a fan unless humidty was way high. The slower it dries before cure the better. Once its smells like hay thats pretty much what your gunna get.... Also your suppose to put into cure just BEFORE the stems snap. Well depending how thick the buds are......

  3. Get better Genetics and or let it finish and it wont smell or taste like hay even when soaking wet...

  4. yes 7 days fan in the same room not blowing directly on it tho, i checked it every day on day 3 it smelled dam good day 5 smelled like hay think it'll still be worth smoking?

  5. Looks like maybe day 4 was the sweet spot then. I think you over dried them. Just having a fan in the room circulating air really expedites the proccess. Ive had stuff overdried in 4 days with NO fan. Hell yea itll be worth smoking because the potency will still be there for the most part. Just not going to have the taste or smell it was destined to have. Its all good though atleast you had a harvest. :smoke:

  6. thank you hurb1 i only harvested 1 plant for this trial and error session i still have 4 female beauties growin around the yard and do not want rest of em to smell like hay ill cut the fan and dry next batch slower everything ive read said wait till stem makes a clean snap b4 putting in2 jars mayb a little sooner next time?

  7. Right ive read that too about waiting for stems to snap. Not saying thats wrong it just all depends. It can be kinda technical because you have buds and stems of varying size and girth. Obviously the small ones will dry faster so you may decide to throw all the smaller ones in the jar and let the rest keep drying. Definetely go without the fan this run because like i said that when the plants dry quick from a fan they dont have the time to undergoe there natural process of flavor preservation and all that im not a scientist though. Goodluck and nice way to have backup plants:cool:
