Weed in American History (A Thinker)

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by puff mcdanks, Jan 23, 2010.

  1. So i was just thinkin you realize thoughout all history marijuana is never mentioned ever which can't be possible. I mean weed has been around forever its not like was discovered in the 1930 when all that propaganda was buzzin around. People had to have known about pleasurable effects of marijuana for ages. Right? Think of how different views now would be if text books in school said outlaws in the wild west were recreationally poofin some bud in those saloons.

I find it hard to believe weed wasn't involved in the 1400s when the French voyagers were doing the Fur Trades in America. They had to be trading bud alongside with those pelts. Think about it its common knowledge that indians smoked a "peace pipe" and if squanto showed the pilgrims how to make popcorn i'm sure the indians would have shown the voyaguers their best recreational activity. And how could those voyaguers who traded tobacco not also be trading a far better smoking drug after experiencing it? So I think someone completely eradicated marijuana from history at some point..

    Thoughts?

Also if you wanna trip out think about what else in history could be a lie

  3. Marijuana use is thoroughly documented throughout history. Along with hallucinogens and whatnot. Just not in textbooks that are directed towards students and stuff. So we never learned about how influential drugs of all kinds have been. I think this knowledge is kinda kept on the DL, given the fact that marijuana/drugs is frowned upon by many people.

It's all about economics in the 20th century. Basically, the use of hemp was taking away from the use of wood. The government was losing money so they put out all this bullshit propaganda. All this negative propaganda in the early 1900's, deterred people from using the drug and created a tremendous amount of bias. Thank God todays generation has realized this. We're damn close to legalization :smoking:

  4. im pretty sure hemp was used as US tender at one point. but that was in the mid to late 1800's im not to fimiliar with the 1400's. and i think a "peace pipe" was used for tobacco not bud. Weed was pretty well documented in the 1800's in the US there was even a law for plantation owners saying that they had to grow hemp

  5. I thought I heard at one point that the peace pipe was often used for paoti as well

  6. what's that????

  7. i always thought peyote was eaten and only grows in the midwest. But if you research it enough you can find timelines and such, they just hide that kind of info from students. There is also new research that says that cave drawings could have been inspired from psychedelics

  8. Yeah me too, it's a cactus so they would have to grind it up to smoke it. But they probably would have just eaten it or made a tea.

  9. In the north american tribes, the calumet(sacred/peace pipe) was only used for special ceremonies and certain quality of tobacco.
The only other substance smoked in the pipe were by the Algonquins. It was called kinnikinnik..i think something like willow bark, mixed with tobacco and sometimes dried berries.
The calumet is only to be smoked out of during certain times, such a sealing an agreement or treaty, or during religious ceremomony.

  10. Oh yes that's what I meant. Well regardless, Native Americans used it religiously and they're a huge part of American history

The drug aspect of history should never be overlooked. I'm sad that people closed their minds so much and over such a short time :(

  11. As someone from the southwest, I assure that peyote was only eaten in the traditional religious use, though it was also used for medicine for a variety of illnesses, its even an antibiotic.

The only problem I have with the OP idea is that you have to consider where cannabis comes from (Asia) and how it got to certain parts of the world and when, they don't all quite match up so easily.
