weed got me fired

  1. well basically me and another employee at CVS were blazing during our lunch break, in his car on cvs property (stupid i know but they only give us 30 mins) Somehow my manager was taking a cigaraete break and saw us. This morning she suspended me, and 10 mins ago she just terminated my employeement. Is this a serious issue, for example will it be hard for me to get a job now? Will it be on my permanaenet record? or is it just that i wont be able to work for cvs again.

  2. it depends what they put down as the reason for your termination.

  3. Don't say that weed got you fired. You got yourself fired by making a stupid decision to smoke weed out on a break. Don't blame this on an herb!

  4. I woulda just waited.

  5. you shoulda just ate it

  6. It's very unlikely that they put "smoking weed with yo boi in the lot!" as your reason for termination. They always throw technicalities at you. So, don't worry about it. But now it's time for me to go so I can't explain it all to you. For that... I'm sorry.

  7. so they proly didnt put nething drug related or they did?

  8. no u have nothing to worry about because of an employment law... if a new job ever calls em to verify employment they by law can not give u a bad recommendation... the only thing they could say is if you were there on time or stuff like that but u have nothing to worry about unless they try to file criminal charges which they wont so ur cool bro... jus be careful next time u blaze on the job.

  9. My thoughts exactly.

  10. hahahaha....when we smoked on the job it was the SHIT! lmao

close up the store...go to the bathroom hit the bong/pipe.....go out for a smoke....open up the store again and it was alll goood. :smoking:

  11. remember, cvs doesn't talk to eckard

  12. thanks bro that cleared things up + rep

  13. Title should be: I got myself fired, I was also smoking weed.

  14. Sugar, weed didn't get you fired; YOU got you fired by smoking at work.......

It certainly isn't going to impress anyone that you go to for employment in future; would you want to employ someone in your company that was wankered on the job? I can't speak for sure about the US, but here it is illegal to give a bad reference, though refusal to give one at all is taken as an indication of ones ability.

  15. I challenge everyone who claims it is illegal to give a bad reference to post the exact law. I've been searching for the past 30 minutes, and it does not seem to be true. It reeks of a myth as it is, but basically what I've come to the conclusion with my research is; it's legal to give a bad reference. most employers don't however because of the chance for a libel lawsuit. Because if the former employer claimed you smoked ganja on your break, then if you were to sue them for libel, they'd have to prove this. A lot of times, it's not easy to prove. And lawsuits are something HR departments want to stay out of.

So please, stop spreading incorrect information. Because there is no such law.

Go to any job reference website, and they all state it's legal. It's just a fine line because of the libel situation. So yes, they can legally share such negative information if you choose. Someday, this myth will be busted =_=

  16. Think about it though, someone calls your old employer and even if theres a law there not supose to say something negative, thats kind of the point of a referance and depending on the person theyll probally say it anyways.

  17. It is correct in the UK; I have hired and fired enough people, I should know.

  18. exacttly, It wasnt weed that got you fired, it was poor judgement.

  19. i no why she fired you cause you and your boy didnt invite her to smoke

  20. so u guys think im fucked if i try to get another job?

would it better just to leave cvs out of my employmenet history? since i only worked here 3 weeks
