Sup people.... Can anyone please help me out here... I harvested my 3 plants 4 days ago and a friend of mine asked for the trim for edibles so I wet trimmed and put all my buds (destocked) in my drying net and all the trim in the bottom rack... The trim was dry today so I put it in a plastic zip lock bag and gave it to him.... It was stinky af... Really good smell... My buds are still drying feel pretty dry but the small stems on the buds don't break or make that snap noise....what I can't figure out is they smell of nothing... Why did the trim stink and nothing from the buds?????...(50%20°)Answers are much appreciated
Proper curing and burping in mason jars will make a huge difference for you. My buds smelled like grass for a good 3 weeks before turning into a skunky scent. They should slowly start coming back and take on the wonderful bud smell.
Thanks man... When do I know there ready for cure??.. I don't hang dry to there isn't much stalk to bend to snap??
Well most hang dry, but I don't have the room for that, plus the wife would kill me because she doesn't like the smell. LOL I wet trim and drop the buds in paper bags. Not too much in the bag (just enough to cover the bottom of the bag) as you risk mold. Crimp down the bags and tighten them with binder clips, opening them every other day, bouncing around the nugs and seal them right back up. I'll do this for about 7 to 10 days, then transfer to 32-ounce mason jars. From there, I will open the jar (burp,) bounce the buds around and close the jar 3 times per week. Once again, this is done to prevent mold. After 2 to 3 weeks of doing this, the buds will get skunky smelling and you're good to go. I can tell when my buds are ready to be transferred from bags to jars by just feeling them. If there is no give when lightly squeezing them, they are good for the jars. This is something that will just come natural to you as you do it more often. Keep in mind this is a very unorthodox method of doing it, and I'm sure there are those who frown on it, but it works for me. All I can is my buds get me high AF and very smooth tasting. I don't sell the stuff. Just share with friends and family, and rarely get any complaints. Sorry for the long-winded post. I just happen to be high AF as I type this. Hope this helps
I also wet trim and remove the buds from the stalk ju to the Mrs.. If I had my way I'd just get a small tent and filter and hang whole.... Could I just put them in paper bags and hope for the best of just leave them on the rack to fully dry.....what I can't understand is that the trim that was just sitting at the end of the rack for 4 days absolutely stank and the buds above it don't smell of anything...
I think this would be a good time for you to try the brown bag method with those buds that aren't smelling right. First time I did it, I was pissed because they smelled like grass and/or hay for the better part of a month. I know now that it just takes time. The way I do it, the entire process is at least a month after I harvest.
I might try some in the bag and some not and see what works best... On my last run I put 120g into a paper bag for like 10 mins b4 jars and I accidentally left one bud in the bag.. When I opened the bag weeks later the bud was loud as fuck...
When you think they may be ready put some buds in a jar with a small hygrometer. If the humidity stays below 62-65% then jar the whole crop. Follow the usual burp procedure. If the jar humidity stays below 60% you overdried so only burp once a week for a month. There are other ways. What is the humidity in the room where your buds are drying?
The humidity in the room is 50-55...how long do they need to stay in the jar with the Hygrometer for it to give an accurate reading?
12-24 hours should do it. For your next harvest try to get your humidity up to 65-70% for the dry. It won't affect the potency but it should preserve more terps and smell better. Plus the slow dry encourages chlorophyll degradation so there's less grass smell. If your humidity is 50% the outside of the buds will dry before the inside and become overly dry and that preserves chlorophyll. There's probably not that much difference actually, it won't be ruined at 50% by any means, it's just a little better at 65-70% and you'll get a premium cure when the moisture content never gets too low.
