Weed and antibiotics

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by StevenTyler77, Aug 10, 2012.

  1. Well, I have to take an antibiotic for a Staph aureus sinus infection (moxifloxacin) and, while I certainly will not smoke weed during the course of the treatment, I did smoke some two days ago. I wonder whether there could be any ill effects from the interaction between the leftover THC and the antibiotics. I haven't been smoking pot during the last weeks, but two days ago I think I've unexpectedly stumbled upon some high quality weed. Just one hit got me fucked up for hours. This is unusual in my country, where we get only the equivalent of what you call high mids. This must have been what you guys call chronic: really powerful stuff. The buds were beautifully formed, never seen any looking that better and it gave me less of a body buzz and more of a cerebral high (must have been more of a sativa hybrid, I think, whereas up until now I've smoked mostly indica hybrids).

I'm kinda scared, because I've read that this antibiotic I am going to take can cause psychiatric and neurological side effects, moreso that I naturally am an anxious person with slight depressive tendencies. So I just wanted to make sure that it's all right to take it after smoking.

And also, how long after I'm done with the antibiotic should I wait before resuming smoking? Thanks in advance.

  2. It will cause your antibiotics to fail and you might possibly contract AIDS please don't do it.

  3. I was on 2 different 500mg antibiotics and one 30mg antibiotics a week ago, smoked a couple times during that week, I was fine, just the antibiotics made a bit more tired. As far as I understand you can't drink alcohol because it kills them in your stomach, smoking it fine though.

  4. Thank you, ImSoLicked, for your answer. I'm kinda paranoid, but I haven't taken antibiotics since my childhood, that makes me quite apprehensive...

@Jiggernex: That wasn't even funny, you know...

  5. You should probably wait a day or two to see what the side effects are if you're still worried about mixing them, but like I said, all I had was extra tiredness, tbh the weed got rid of the other side effects :D although that was just my experience, maybe someone else could shed more light?

  6. I am a Board Certified Internist and can assure you not to worry in the least. There will be no interaction between your antibiotic and the 420 you previously used. You can resume smoking 48-72 hours after completing your full course of antibiotics.

  7. i took antibiotics earlier this year and smoked throughout but i did avoid alcohol the whole time. Nothing went wrong and i was cured within a few days of beginning the drug (but you have to finish the course of the antibiotic or some crazy shit will go down).

  8. The THC won't affect it much you'll be fine

  9. I was wondering when I should be able to start smoking weed again as I just finished 7 days worth of antibiotics tonight around 4pm and was wondering if I'm safe to start smoking my weed tonight or should I wait I literally have no clue and everyone I ask that's a professional dodges the question

  10. I can’t see how weed could interfere with antibiotics but i’m not a doc. I still can't see it.

  11. This post is very very old! some antibitiotics like flagyl will react negatively with cannabis and there are warnings on the label. I found out the hard way..never again!!

  12. Thank you for this information.
