Weed and alcoholism

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by Capdun, Dec 4, 2023.

  1. I used weed to beat nicotine addiction and it worked very well. I noticed my alcohol consumption went way down because now I like weed better. A friend of mine is letting the whiskey get on top of him so my question for ya'll is has anybody slowed their hard drinking in favor of weed? Do you think it would be something to suggest or would he just end up a stoned drunk?

  2. Personally I went to a rehab place for alcohol. Good thing I did because my second night my BP bottomed out and I'm glad I was under medical care. Too deep into alcohol and you're better off drying out safely. Weed and alcohol were always 2 separate issues for me. Still smoke tons of weed, and do not crave alcohol at all. My weed use did probably rise after I quit drinking, but was back to normal before long. Probably doesn't help you much, but everyone and every case will be different. My personal opinion would be that if someone wanted to quit drinking, weed could probably help take the edge off, but not take it's place.

  3. He will only toke and drink maybe one or two times before he seriously vomits,
its called pissing into the wind, (by the Freaky Bros comix)
I've often been caught out so much its referred to 'red bucket time', at my place and I never fucking learn
mixing my wine and weed, and its ruined many a grand Saturday nights adventure

  4. CBD can help protect from some of the damage that alcohol causes; I see several papers on this, such as:
Therapeutic Prospects of Cannabidiol for Alcohol Use Disorder and Alcohol-Related Damages on the Liver and the Brain
I've also read anecdotes from members that cannabis helped them steer away from alcohol.
But alcoholism is a disease that requires serious intervention and desire to stop. I've seen it ruin too many people.

Just briefly reviewing, I did find this:

I highlighted the key point. CBD helped reduce drinking, whereas THC and THC/CBD did not affect alcohol consumption.

I'd say get your friend on CBD gummies, like 60mg two or three times a day.

Good luck with it. Some of my friends need help as well.

  5. Furthermore:
Additionally, Gonzalez-Cuevas and colleagues reported in a 2018 study that rats with a history of prolonging alcohol or cocaine use showed significantly reduced stress and drug-seeking behavior after given CBD [113]. These improvements persisted for several months after CBD was no longer detectable and are consistent with the current research that shows CBD can reduce convulsions, anxiety, and nausea–symptoms associated with detoxification [113]. 6. It's always best to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice and assistance tailored to your friend's specific situation.

That's a really interesting perspective, Capdun. It's amazing how cannabis can sometimes help people reduce their alcohol consumption. However, it's important to approach these changes with caution, especially when dealing with alcoholism. While cannabis might seem like a safer alternative, it's essential to consider the potential risks and consequences.
If your friend is struggling with alcohol and it's affecting his life negatively, it might be helpful for him to seek professional help. Substance use disorders, including alcoholism, can be challenging to overcome alone. There are many resources and treatment options available that can provide support and guidance.

Cold turkey from cigarettes.. to weed. Doctor said I needed a new habit, that was after waking up out of a coma for 3 weeks . I was out of the hospital for 3 days and went back in because my body was filled with blood clots . Pretty sure he/doctor was saying smoke weed. Might be off topic, IMO weed helps allot when dealing with most all addictions
No cigarettes from the end of 2010...........its a nasty habit, and alcoholism is worse.
Personally me being off weed is something I do to conduct certain business.
