We got any ska fans here?

  1. My winamp usually just stays on my rap playlist (Soulja Slim, Mac Dre, C-Murder, B.G., everything) but I was playing my all music section and it played one of my long time favorite bands, Mad Caddies, and I had a flash back of when I use to listen to streetlight Manifesto, Catch 22, Big D, The Specials and Skatalities.

So do we have any 1st. 2nd, 3rd gen Ska fans?

  2. I used to listen to it alot more and used to frequent the Boston ska scene, but it seems I've lost my youthful zeal for the music.

But the ska I listen to has stood the test of time (Streetlight, Big D, Catch and the like).

  3. I like ska, but I'm not huge into it. I'm not too familiar with any particular artists, but I can definitely jam out to it.

  4. Like it, more like an aficionado...

I like first wave ska, which consisted of the likes of Desmond Dekker and The Skatalites.

I like second wave ska, which consisted of the likes of The Specials, Madness, The English Beat, and The Selecter.

And then there's the latter period of ska, also known as third wave, also known as modern ska which includes/included the likes of Hepcat, Vic Ruggiero/The Slackers, King Django, and then there's ska/mixed which includes the likes of Catch 22, Mouthwash, Big D and the Kids Table, and Choking Victim/Leftover Crack/INDK/Mourning Glory.

This doesn't even cover the basis of ska, but this is just a little summary of bands and knowledge I have that immediately comes to mind. Give me a test on ska, and I'll ace it:hello: .

Hope you don't mind the insanely long post hahaha.

  5. 1) Put these in chronological order of their creation: Rockseady, Ska, Reggae. Bonus points if you can tell me how they evolved.

    2) Which current ska band's trumpet player has plastic front teeth in order to play faster?

    3) Which ska band recently lost a member to a motorcycle accident?

    4) What is the name of The Specials logo?

    5) Who was this drawing based on? Bonus points if you can name the album cover?

    6) Whats the difference between The Beat and The English Beat?

    7) Who were the other two members of The Wailers?

    8) Which 3 people have all claimed to be the king of ska?

    9) What was the only all female band on 2-tone records?

    10) Which ska band was featured on the british sitcom "The Young Ones"?

Most of these questions are second wave.

  6. Big big fan of ska

Im an even bigger fanof Ska in Spanish. Both Spain and Mexico have a HUGE Ska scene with some mazing bands coming. Not to mention the rest of europe.

    Ska-P
    Banda Bassotti
    Skapulario
    Paranoicos
    La Resistencia
    Skarface

    All great bands.

Also a good punk/ska band would be The Suicide Machines, althought they really only have one good album.
