watts / $$$

  1. Hey everyone I guess I am just a little paranoid but I live in a pretty small house (about 1100 square feet) and got two 400w HPS and I really don't know if I am using to much electricity compared with my neighbors. Does anyone know how much electricity do this lights use per month and what does it take too start looking suspicious?

  2. this is great! thank you

  3. Well, that's 800w per second of power, a kilowatt hour is 3.6 million watts. After learning how much your power company charges per kilowatt hour and doing some math you should know how much you're paying.

  4. Are you sure about this? i though 800w = 0.8Kw/h, 3.6 million watts sounds a little off.

  5. I'm positive. I actually have a BA in Electrical Engineering--working on my BS atm.

  6. kilo = 1000, so kilowatt = 1000 watts and 800 watts = .8kw

Please don't undermine me after I just said that I know what I'm talking about, this is pretty rudimentary stuff. Watt = 1J/s; Kilowatt = 1,000W; Hour = 3,600s; Kilowatt Hour = 3.6MW(3,600,000W).
