Watt light should I use to start my plants?

  1. I've been growing with CFL's in the past. However, my next grow will be with mh for veg and hps for flower. Will a 400 watt mh be too much when my plants first come out of the soil or should I use CFL's for the first week or so? Thanks.
  2. You can use the MH from the start, but you will need to keep it well off the plants -- start at 2 or even 3 feet away, then lower a couple of inches each day so that after about 10 days you have it down at the optimal height.

Or, you certainly can start them on CFLs, you don't need all the light that the MH is putting out and therefore you don't need to pay for the electricity to produce it. If you have an easy CFL setup you would be fine to start with that.
  3. Thanks, toastybiz. Exactly what I needed.
