I just recently went to hydro using coco and just got my watering system set up. When I turn it on, it pressurizes and then pulses. I’m using a micro drip system by FloraFlex so water comes out slowly as it should. I just want to know if the pulsing on the pump is normal? I’ve attached a picture but I’m assuming the pump is attempting to maintain a certain line pressure and as water leaves the line, the pressure drops and the pump turns back on to meet the requirement. It stays on for about a second and then it’s off for about 2 seconds before it turns on again. Thanks in advance
This one is actually small. I had to get an adapter to to step up the outlet to 3/4. What size pump do you use?
I’m utilizing a different type of hydro system. Now I understand why you called my pump “big”. I’m using a drain to waste hydroponics system so no return line
That sounds like it would work. Would probably take some fine tuning but theoretically it should work. I’m just wondering if that would water the plants adequately enough or would the pump have to stay “on” for a lot longer than planned. As it is right now, my irrigation events are about 10 mins long with the pump being “on” for less than half of that time.
Hey Dwayne, you don't need that pump, just a regular water pump coupled to halo rings would work great. I've done many DTW coco grows this way. The pump you are using would be nice for aquaponics... and the pump shouldn't be going on/off like that either. You might want to look into Sicce pumps as they are very good and have a 5 year warranty.
Link to a pump you’re suggesting? How much lift is it capable of? Can it self prime? Also I have confirmed that the pump going on and off is in fact normal operation. Has internal pressure sensor that shuts off the pump when a certain pressure is reached. That’s adjustable by an Allen key at the bottom. This type of pumps is often used in RV’s. Usually set up to run a shower or faucet. Tap/shower is opened and the pump flows to attempt to maintain pressure, tap/shower is closed, pressure is reached and the pump shuts off and holds that pressure automatically.
Ive attached a picture of a pump I found using the name you suggested and I actually have one of those pumps. A different brand but same thing. I use that as my circulation pump in my reservoir. I tried to use one of those for a similar setup and it burnt out in about 3 weeks. This is like an aquarium pump or an evacuation pump. Not really for irrigation
not the same thing if it lasts 3 weeks. This has a 5-year warranty. I'm glad you worked out the pressure on/off thing. I also have a similar pump but haven't used it yet.
