Hey guys, like the title says, i am a newbie XD. I have a question on what kind of water should i use to water my baby. Im currently using bottled water from local walmart, Natural Spring Water i should say, it has 300 ppms. The plant doesnt seem to hate it so its alright. Im just wondering if i should use distilled water? virtually 0 ppms. or is it not beneficial to the plant because it literally has nothing in it. I would use tap water from the city but im kind of worried because there is way too much chemicals in it. I cant find my camera, or id post an updated picture of my plant. So ill just post one from a day or 2 ago.
You can use distilled water or even Ro water just make sure you are checking the ppms and dont over water. good luck
Use tap water. Fill a couple 5 gallons bottles, leave caps off for a day or two to off gas the chlorine. All the other minerals in tap water is fine for our plants. Unless your city uses chloramine, that don't off gas. You can call your water company and ask if the use chloramine in municipal water. If your all sketchy call them from a pay phone, they won't even question why your asking. But I would just call from home. If they just use chlorine, off gas it and use it. 20 years growing, have always used tap water for soil grows. ALWAYS! And I grow organic and it does not harm the ol' soil critters Sent from my SM-G530T using Grasscity Forum mobile app
should i be checking the ppms of the Ro water? Ill have to go out and get a ppm meter. I haven't used tap water yet. I might do it in my next grow to save a couple dollars on water. thanks for the info nuker! I just emailed my citys municipal works, now to wait for a response
If you live in the usa, your city should have the results posted online. Should look like this... Sent from my SM-G530T using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Just use tap water. There's nothing in tap water that will hurt your plants and actually, there are micronutrients in it that the plants need. Water treatment plants stopped using chorine and now use "chloramine." Chloramine does not evaporate so there's no need to let your water sit out, and there isn't enough of it in tap water to have any kind of negative affect on your plants. People who use heavily filtered water often get weird deficiencies in their plants because absolutely everything has been filtered out. I've been using tap water for several years now and my plants are beautiful so I know it works. TWW
Glad we both agree on the tap water. But your a lil wrong. Cities do still use chlorine. It's on the test results I posted. Upland CA USA still uses good ol chlorine. Alot of cities still do. But yeah, if your city does use chloramine, a simple under the sink filter would eliminate it. Not RO, just a simple filter. If you really wanted to filter it. My outdoor plants have always gotten the water straight from the hose, chlorine and all. And never any issues. I don't check pH nor do I check ppm. That's for hydro and chemical growers. Tap water is golden unless you live in Flint Michigan. Lol Sent from my SM-G530T using Grasscity Forum mobile app
My dad has kidney failure and bone cancer and he gets these bleach test strips I had been running water 24hrs before I used it. I thought there would be traceable chlorine but 0 ppm so that mad me happy I'm on town water. I find I have better luck with watering just enough to get me through a 24hrs streatch I'm in at least 3gal pots but try to not over water and also soil I keep my phone right at 6.8/7.4 and I always seem to get a run off of like 5.6 always low don't understand?
