Hey guys, where is your favorite place to get a water test done from? I currently have been using Poland Springs water for my watering which, as you could imagine, gets costly. I do think my water will be okay to use but I want to make sure to check first. In addition, what is the consensus on the best places to get a soil test done from? I want a comprehensive one consisting of NPK, PH, and CEC as well if possible. Thank you guys!
I use water from a natural spring on my property. I run it thru a Hydralogic Small Boy filter system. I use a digital ph tester & apply PH Up or Down as needed. Buying water is going to get expensive compared to investing in a filtration system. Getting soil tested risks exposure for what you are doing...unless you are in a legal state. There are soil testing tools available & not very expensive.
My very first thought is the local University Extension Service. I have used mine several times. It's 'what they do'.
I send all my soil and water samples to Logan Labs. I wouldn't worry in the slightest about being in a legal state or not for that. They are very professional and definitely do not ask what you are growing. P-
It must be quite the paradigm shift for University Extension Services to be doing so much work on perlite/soil mixtures... suddenly. While the service used to be free, there is a charge, now. On the other hand, I used to get very basic analyses. Now, I get FAR MORE computer generated information about what I've got and what I need to do to get wherever I want to go.
@smokymtn I grow organically and do not balance my PH as my microbes take care of that, however, you are definitely correct that it gets expensive lol. In addition, I also live in a legal state so I am not worried about that aspect of it. @Patanjali Thank you man, do you send out for containers first or just send your samples to them in whatever containers you choose?
For sure! Whatever container you choose. I would recommend a water bottle. You need to send in at least 10oz. P-
