Water on Mars

  1. Maybe now some people will stop thinking me stupid for believing there is water on Mars. :p

  2. What are we waiting for? Let's get terraforming!!

  3. Damn right. I want to be a colonist!

  4. Let's play rochambeau for it. I go first.

  5. There can be more than one colonist you realize... It would be pretty hard to tame a planet alone. :p

  6. ...can we still play rochambeau? I go first!

  7. Sure we can.

  8. Great! Now we can all stop worrying about murderous villians out to get us. WHEW! I was scared there for a minute but this changes everything. I want my great, great grandson to be the first on a ship. Of course I will be dead and rotten and it won't mean a hill of beans. But hey I said that huh. Maybe science will dicover that energy never ceases to be a driving force of somekind. Then we will all be saved!

That mars thing sounds great fellers' hook me up for life. Poverty and murders ending can't be far behind. We will cease all lying, and cheating and we will finally be happy. :D

  9. First off, I want to clarify this is sarcasm?

You spout a lot of irrational things, after all.

  10. I would think it is sarcasm... I do not know how finding water on Mars would end all murders, poverty, lying, and cheating, but it would be cool if it did.

  11. Haha the sarcasm makes no sense though! it's absurd!

  12. It did kind of come right out of the blue.

  13. We need a Rambo on Mars movie.

  14. You mean like Doom?

  15. I have to be honest.

Reading into this has filled me with hope. I know it sounds cornball, but it really has.

Our species if far from perfects, we still has so much to overcome. Mars is our best opportunity for prolonging the survival of our species against ourselves.

It is something that isn't so incredibly out of our reach. We have some singificant hurdles, but we're a resilient species which has already persevered against probability.

If we humans were just able to colonize another region of our vast galaxy, our opportunity for survival beyond disaster (except that of gigantic proportions) would grow exponentially.

To me, tis seems almost natural for our species. We've always been keen to explore and colonize, every since our primordial ancestors first started to rise out of the African savannas all the way up to the colonization of the "New World".

I really can't justify my emotions about this prospective opportunity. But this discovery and confirmation has gone a VERY long way to making it a reality.

Maybe someday mine and your children will inhabit that little red planet.

(wikipedia has an awesome page on Mars' terraformation)

"Whatever the reason you're on Mars, I'm glad you're there, and I wish I was with you."

  16. It does not sound "cornball" to me d00d. I feel the same way.

    Indeed it is.

Yeah man. Exactly. I just hope it happens sooner rather than later. The state of our planet does cause me to worry, and it is sad indeed that those who are in power do not seem that concerned. The possibility of extinction is not as remote as some would believe, and we must take steps to ensure our continued survival. The human species should not die out and vanish, but instead live on and exist to continue the journey our ancestors started so many years ago. There is still so much to learn, so much to experience, and so much we have yet to see.

  17. Despite many issues we have yet to overcome, I think humans are still talking the first baby-steps into our potential.

  18. I agree, very much so. If we can just survive long enough to realise our potential...who knows? Tremendous leaps forward in technlogy are being made almost by the week now. Who knows, we mightt each get a chance to go into space ourselves at some point. Imagine that...

  19. NASA doesn't suspect we'll be able to put people on the MOON for a few more decades, so I doubt we'll see humans on Mars in our lifetime. Tie that into the recent budget cuts NASA has seen (they've actually had to hault several projects because of this), and you'll be hardpressed to get someone on the Moon even.

If it happens, great. If not, good luck when I'm gone!
