Hi, we currently have 3 week old plants in a diy drip system the plants are in 4" rockwool and in pots with the bottoms cut out, the roots are growing through the rockwool and are almost dangling in the reserviour which is oxygenated. The lights are currently on 24/7 (1x 400w hps) and the water is also on a constant drip. we were thinking about changing the light to 18/6 but were not sure whether to leave the water on constant? So should we have any water running at all while the lights are off?? The plants look ok in general and the roots are bright white and growing daily, although there is slight yellowing on some leaves. They are currently having 1ml per ltr of adv nutrients GMB, and .5ml per ltr of voodoo juice. does this sound right??? the room temp is about 27C and the water is about 20c, and the ph is around 5.8 give or take. Any help/advice appreciated. 0
Drip system is irrelevant once your roots hit the res. And if you're using nutes I'd watch to make sure the drip ring doesn't clog and mess with your system. One of the reasons I abandoned my diy drip ring setup for bubble buckets.
i would get a 5.25" heavy duty net pot and fill it 2/3 with hydroton and then put the rockwool cube in that. what it sounds like you have going on will not hold. those plants get heavy. like ten to twenty pounds up top. plus a wet root system. if you already have a huge root system coming out of the plant then you need to fill half way with hydroton. fully submerge the rock so its floating. and then gently sit the roots in the floating rock. gently placing the roots down in the rock the best you can. i tried the roots with no bottom before. it turned out to be more trouble than it war worth.
