Water Beads as A Hydro Grow Medium?

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by ionicbreeze, Nov 15, 2012.

  1. I am trying to figure out whether or not these would be a suitable alternative to hydroton, as they are extremely cheap (like $1 for a shit ton). I have not heard of anyone use these to grow our plants yet and I am curious. I have done experiments with different mediums before and would like to hear the community's opinion. Here's a link for the beads i'm talking about thanks. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2Gwfg_69Hs]Water beads growing - YouTube[/ame]

  2. Would they not take up nutes when top feeding or drippers? Dosnt seem light proof ether?

  3. "With water beads you will not need to water plants frequently. The good thing is you will not need to fertilize as often because your plant food is not washed out of the soil as quickly." Here is the complete article I read.

I am using those beads for a month now and it is indeed helpful with my plants.
