The post was talking about sterilization, so maybe it meant penetrating as a physical property of it, as in it penetrates through stuff to sterilize better/faster. A press (when you layer water on top of a mixed drink, like rum and coke) as I understand it is to help you stay hydrated a little at a time so you feel better and don't get as hung over. It won't make you drunker but it'll feel better. Makes teh drinks kinda flat though, I just drink bottled water in between
