Ever since my Grandfather had a bout with Colitis he has been in declining health, he was your typical go getter busy body always working on a project guy.  They put him on remicade and I pleaded with him to try MMJ in some shape or form instead... ever since then he has had a multitude of health issues from having to have a kidney removed, major pulmonary issues..

he recently had a double bypass which, was successful.. however a piece of plaque broke off and traveled to his foot and through scans by chance they found a malignant growth on his pancreas and claimed that he was extremely lucky to have found it like that so early.  They did a full PET Scan that revealed nothing else.  They claimed it would be a simple snip and cut procedure, no chemo, no radiation.

He went in for procedure today to have the growth and his spleen removed and when they went in they couldn't even do the procedure because they found cancer on his liver and over 100 nodes....

My grandfathers side of the family is extremely stubborn  and to the book and even though MMJ has gotten legalized in NY its not implemented yet and for me to even suggest that to them I get shame on yous... they don't understand that maybe it could help him or at the very least if theres nothing to do at least give him quality of life in the end... I just don't know what to do or how to go about it.. I know I could get him capsules or tinctures just that side of the family so bible thumper about it.... it will fucking eat me alive knowing he didn't at least try it before the end

  2. Damn dude. I'm so sorry. I know how it is. My grandfather is a retired police officer, retired probation officer before that he was an actor ( in almost every john wayne movie, sorry but I won't disclose my grandfathers name due to respect) and veteran of the Korean War, Vietnam, desert storm and he got cancer and parkinsons due to agent orange.
This year, he broke his hip and he is way depressed and giving up on gappyneas. His parkinsons hit so hard after breaking his hip.

So I got my grandmother some cbd oil from colorado for him, keep in mind my grandfather is old school and "hates liberal hippies"

But he is so tired of being shaky and not feeling good. So he accepted the oil, it's cut his shaking down and helps him sleep through the whole night! My grandmother says it's a miracle drug.

I got so much respect for this man. It's hard and kills me to see him hurting. It's emotional as fuck.

  5. OK, hon, he isn't going to go along with a high THC RSO (Rick Simpson's oil)- the idea of avoiding getting high at all costs has been drummed into his head for decades.

However, you might want to approach the subject through CBD/ cannabidiol- the same stuff they are giving the epileptic kids with such great success and NO high!  You have some reading to do, but I'm going to get you started on what you need to know!  Seems that CBD does some interesting things when it comes to cancers!

First off, CBD can stop the growth of the "feeder" blood vessels (angiogenesis- angie-oh-genesis) that help tumors grow so very fast!  Cut down on their food and they can't grow so fast!

Cannabidiol inhibits angiogenesis by multiple mechanisms.
    (full – 2012)          http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3504989/

Cannabidiol (and also THC) can pull a neat trick when it comes to lung cancer cells (and likely other kinds of cancer cells)-

Cannabinoids Increase Lung Cancer Cell Lysis By Lymphokine-Activated  Killer Cells Via Upregulation of ICAM-1    (abst – 2014)           http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25069049

THC, CBD  and R-Methanandamide (a synthetic drug similar to your own Anandamide) all cause cancer cells to become “sticky”, so your immune system's Killer Cells can grab the cancer cells more easily and destroy them!  Interestingly, the cannabinoids “ignore” healthy lung cells, so your Killer Cells just go after the “sticky” cancer cells!  "Lysis" means the death or decomposition of a cell.

What makes this doubly interesting is that THC and CBD work in very different ways, even when doing the same job, as in the above study! When CBD and THC are used together you often end up with a "1 + 1 = 3" situation due to the Entourage Effect.  You can learn more about the Entourage effect by watching Dr Sanjay Gupta's CNN special on it. You can find it free on YouTube.

You know that there are many types of cancers. One group, that all share the Id-1 gene, is very aggressive and hard to treat. Since your grandfather's cancer is obviously aggressive, it may belong to that group. These cancers include "triple negative" breast cancer, and it is frequently used to test compounds to see if they are useful in fighting this group of cancers.

Get the family to watch Dr Sanjay Gupta's CNN specials on cannabis (There is NO way his specials on cannabis can be dismissed as "hippie propaganda"! CNN is not a front for "High Times"! )

That should get you started! Do your research. And maybe send me a PM with your email in it. I'll send you my collection of studies, so you can go through it and find even more to educate them with!

Colitis isn't an issue for him any more, unfortunately the remicade treatment started this entire decline.. its kind of all the cancer they've found now.. they went in and decided not to operate.  Found it on his liver, over 100 nodes...

I've shown them countless videos and what not.. even now that its been legalized in NY they still are apprehensive just because it hasn't been "implemented" yet...

  9. Aye to have been watching the same thing occur from a triple bypass and badish stroke. I do not want to comment further but I feel for you op I do.

It is a sad thing to see someone you love so much change like that

Given the situation it seems like my grandfathers side of the family is coming around to the idea of medical cannabis, unfortunately it is still not implemented here in NY but what would be the best avenue to go for relief for him? edibles? tinctures? not necessarily looking for a cure or a prayer just some relief and quality of life for the old man instead of suffering

He was the typical, 1950s go getter always busy had a project guy, its hard for me to see him wither away like this.  In the past month alone hes lost 20+ pounds.  Can barely walk.

    He has pulmonary issues
Had to have a kidney removed
    Double Bypass
    Currently on Dialysis
    Ulcerative Colitis / Crohns
    Cancer

  11. Unfortunately he probably isn't going to be changing his mind, and you may ostracize yourself from your family if you keep pushing the issue. Just be aware that time is running out more than likely, and make the most of the time you have left with him.

I know it may sound flippant, but it is a reality that is unfortunately true. I watched my grandpa waste away before he died and it is an awful thing to watch. I understand how you're feeling, but preparing yourself for it will be helpful in the long run.

  12. I'm sorry to hear this OP. It's never easy seeing a family member decline in such a way. My grandmother's health declined badly before she passed on and at least my family and I visited her often. We weren't there the moment she died, but I am glad that the last time I saw her, I gave her a hug and told her I love her.

All you can do now is enjoy every moment that you have with your grandfather. Help him be strong in this process and you will become a stronger person because of it. Time and memories heals all wounds and nothing else can. I wish you and your family the best and that your grandfather is comfortable.
