Washington Resident with Medical MJ questions.

Discussion in 'Medical Cannabis: Treatments & Patient Experiences' started by Baxter55, Jun 24, 2004.

  1. I am 21 years old. Since I was 15 I have been suffering from muscle spasms in my back. Over the years they have slowly progressed. The night before last they were so bad that I cannot think of a single time in my life where I felt more pain. I actually started to cry and I have not done that since I was 16 years old and my friend died in a car accident. I had an appendicitis once and that was no where near as painful.

I've been to several doctors, chiropractors, massage therapists... none of them have helped. The only thing that has worked so far with the pain is narcotic muscle relaxers and pain killers. However, I am prone to physical dependance of narcotics rather quickly (After I had shoulder surgery, I took percocet for two days and when I stopped I went through terrible withdrawls and had to be sedated).

After the incident the other night, I went to my family physician and got the same old lecture and the same old prescriptions-Xanax and Hydrocodone. Hydrocodone makes me sick when I take it, though it does help with the pain, it makes me incredibly edgy and I tend to snap at my wife and fester in pointless anger until it wears off. Xanax helps a little with relaxing my muscles and sleep, but does nothing for pain.

The spasms are getting to be unbearable and last for days at a time, if not an entire week. I lose sleep and miss work because of them. Over the counter pain relievers and anti-inflamatories have never worked.

When I smoke marijuana, however, I experience no spasms for up to two days after smoking a single bowl.

The spasms are getting worse. They are on the lower left side of my back, and they radiate around to my stomach, solar plexus, and up to my jaws, making it difficult and undesirable to eat even when I am hungry.

My questions: Am I a candidate for medical MJ?
    And...
Is there anyone in this forum from Washington state that can give me advice on seeking a physician or specialist that is supportive of medical marijuana? As I know it is still hotly debated, and I don't want to waste my time and money (I have no health insurance) going to doctors that will just say no and give me more pain killers.
My email is CCBassist@hotmail.com if someone has info but is hesitant to post in this forum. Any input would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

  2. Thank you so much. Is there any way I could visit a doctor in Oregon and have his medical recommendation applicable in Washington? I live only an hour from the Oregon/Washington border.

  3. no, Ive got mine in Oregon too, and they are pretty much worthless when you take em out of the state... you sound like an excellent candidate, so you really shouldnt have too much trouble getting it in washington. Try to look it up on the net, thats always a good place to start.

    good luck

  4. I've spent the last few weeks searching for doctors online, but it seems that they do not like to be known. I found a list of doctors that are pro-med mj but most of them are usually semi-famous UW med school doctors and I don't think it would be easy to see them, or in my financial abilities since I have no health insurance. I was thinking about just calling random doctors and asking them if they would consider me for medical marijuana if I made an appointment with them and showed them my medical records.

  5. that seems like a good plan, i live in the uk and we get free health but i dont actually know if medical mj is available at all here!

  6. OK Bax I have a Rx and I live in WA. First ask your doc's about baclofin I take the max of 120 mg each day and my spasms are bad enough to set me on my ass. my MJ script is for chronic pain and my Doc gave it to me after trying many different pain killers mostly narcs (fentinal, O.C., methadone).Anyway the MJ works very well talk to your Doc and bring him /her some research on it, it's all over the web. My doc works out of Harberview, U.W., and the V.A.. Pain management is a very high priority and not prescribing narc's is what thies docs are into. See if you can get a referral from your doc. Good Luck
