washington cold frame grow

Discussion in 'Greenhouses' started by rustynails, Dec 28, 2012.

  1. hello everyone I plan on growing outdoor this summer in a cold frame similar to this Palram Cold Frame - Greenhouses at Hayneedle
but much bigger im thinking 4 by 8 by 3ft tall. all wood contruction and some painters tarp and a built in scrog screen.

So i am woundering should i put all 15 plants in one cold frame or 3 cold frames with 5 plants each.
should i plant them in the ground or should i use pots?
what strains do the best in north west washington weather? mold resistant strains?

all this is going to be WAY more than ill need for medication. how do i sell to my local dispensary?

  2. I also was thinking about plant some herbs around the cold frame to deter deer.

  3. Your deer have thumbs? How else is it gonna lift the locked lid ;)

the built in scrog screen is fucking genius by the way

  4. thank you! I plan on having the lid cracked half the time for ventilation but the low profile design would be perfect for a urban grow.

  5. One question how are you going to heat it? There is not a chance in hell of having plants live through winter temps even in a insulated green house temps will dip at night to freezing temps. Forgive me if i missed something Im just curious.

  6. i was thinking about trying the black barrel trick.
im hoping to use it more as a green house during the warmer summer months but start them inside. dont suppose any washington growers know what month i should plant them in the ground?

  7. plant your seeds inside around february. This gives you a month or two to select the several plants you like of each variety. Then propogate those plants so you have 30-40 cuttings of the correct plants. Put the cuttings in the cold frame when they are 1-2' tall and the killing frosts subside, usually between may-june. This hardens the plants off which is good, but it will be good to pull them back inside for a few weeks to recover before temperatures are warm enough for growth during late june-july. Using this method (or any variation) you can grow some real beasts outside (or in a greenhouse)

the basic concept of a greenhouse is to lengthen the growing season by a month on either end.

  8. im only allowed 15 plants im trying to be as legal as i possible can.im going to reup my liscense and when i do i was going to go by 15 clones. got any recomendation for washington weather? thank you for the info hope2toke

How do you expect to finish your plants in a cold frame that is only 3' tall. Plants grown outside will be at least 5-6' tall if grown well and many will easily top 10' by flowering time with average growing skills. Low yielding plants like kiddie canna autos would be the only plants that will not outgrow this cold frame. When using photoperiod plants move outside when the day light cycle is more than 14 1/2 hours at the grow site to avoid flowering and reversal from short daylength.

  10. I am trying to work that bug out. im thinking with a large 3by8 or 4by8 scrog screen could lst/ topping to fill it out. also i have notices from my prior experience 5 to 10 gallon size pots will keep the plants smaller

  11. smaller greenhouse are much harder to control heat/humidity/co2. id just go full sized hoop, they can be made for under 200 dollars, and get some windows of criagslist, youll be ballin with sliding screened windows on your cold frame,

  12. i found a better picture of what i wanna build a wood cold frame. [IMG]

  13. i got this idea because i found this cold frame lowprofile scrog. [IMG]
