Was Charles Manson actually crazy?

Discussion in 'Philosophy' started by Feathertop_2064, Apr 21, 2016.

  1. I was just thinking about what makes someone crazy to others. Charles manson is commonly labeled as insane but he was able to rally a following to believe in who he was. is that what makes someone crazy?

  2. Charles Manson "Maybe I should have killed 4-500 people then I would've felt better, then I would've felt like I really offered society something you know. If I wanted to kill somebody I'd take this book and beat you to death with it, and I wouldn't feel a thing, It'd be just like walking through the drugstore."

He was definitely a psychopath so yes he was crazy. Here's a chunk of wiki to show you one of his beliefs:
Manson believed in what he called "Helter Skelter", a term he took from the song of the same name by the Beatles. Manson believed Helter Skelter to be an impending apocalyptic race war, which he described in his own version of the lyrics to the Beatles' song. He believed the murders would help precipitate that war.

  7. No someone who says they would beat someone to death with a book and not feel a thing, meaning he feels no empathy. He was definitely a psychopath or a sociopath, he convinced his followers to commit murder for him an I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) was feeding them drugs and lies at his commune, pretty much brainwashing in its simplest form.

  9. Or the dude who created the largest mass suicide in Guyana. We need to understand these people a little better as they are telling about ourselves and the state/direction of society.

It's crazy one would do such a thing, he/thdy were absorbed in some sort of destructive aura.

  10. Well when you put it that way i see your point. Do we blame it Charlie or the people that are willing to believe in what the absurd and irrational ideas he was spewing?

  11. Forget the blame. The fact there was a man of this kind of evil says what of his surroundings? And for others who are so lost and troubled no matter how convincing his words or inviting his gaze, to follow in his lead.

Evidently these people were yearning for something in which he fulfilled, perhaps a sense of belonging.

  13. I think he's a crazy person, like the muttering homeless guy yelling at the stop sign.
Only difference is that he had influence on weak willed people.

  14. Some people see killing ants or insects and killing people equal. What exactly is the difference? We are both forms of life. Think about it ;) I believed religion confused everything.

I wouldn't know much about Charles but i knew many so called "crazy-talking" people and homeless people out there when i was a kid and i used to talk to them a lot which now 20 years later i realize that are actually on point and have been right all along. The only reason people classified them as crazy because their minds weren't developed enough or haven't been through enough suffering in their lives to comprehend the knowledge these so called "Crazy people" somehow possess.

I bet there are people in mental hospitals that have figured out things we have yet to understand but cause of that we classed them as crazy and locked them up in a nut house and force fed them drugs that disrupt the connection to deeper levels of thought and disconnect the awakening process.

Through experience comes wisdom. No matter how knowledgeable or smart you are or how many books you've read without actually living what you read and know you won't learn a thing.
A so called crazy-man once told me.. That 1000 smart people couldn't solve 1 wise puzzle.

  15. I watched a great documentary on YouTube about him. To put it bluntly yes, it seems as if he was definitely crazy. He had an extremely hard upbringing and spent most of his youth in prison, the prison system basically raised him. Former members of his cult have stated that he used drugs as a tool to manipulate his followers into thinking he was a prophet. He would give them LSD and perform these intricate rituals reenacting the crucifixion in front of them. Though none of the members seem to recall ever seeing him use the drug, they were asked to many, many times. After many many drug trips, and manipulation and threats, Manson was able to convince his members to kill the people that they did. Though Manson never killed anyone with his hands, he used threats and forced some members to police others into doing the dirty work. He would put one person in charge of making sure everyone "got their hands dirty" and report back to him, stating that everyone involved in the murders had made kills themselves.

  16. Damn, Sounds more like what CIA did using mind-control techniques and sound/vibrational frequencies paired with drugs to create assassins that can't remember anything afterwards.

  17. It's been said, "There's a fine line between genius and insanity."
Since Manson's childhood (basically the formative years) was steeped in sex (his mom was a prostitute), psychedelic drugs and all-around badness...his mind developed in a warped way, that some might consider insane. I believe that if his childhood included family values, morals, ethics, goodness etc., he just may have gone the genius route.
Hearing him speaking sounds like manic depression could be one of his problems.
    Just my humble opinion.

The wiser i become the more Charlie makes sense to me. Weed is a Psychedelic drug too its just on the low ends and psychedelics actually help aid in expanding consciousness and accessing deeper levels of mind/self.

And deaths have and are extremely extremely rare, especially with Mushrooms, LSD and DMT next to no documented deaths ever. Unlike Alcohol, Tobacco and Coffee which kill millions a year and actually is counter-productive for expanding the mind and and so on yet were allowed to talk about them freely here.

I sometimes wonder who controls these forums and i now realize 90% of the shit we been told about charles is just what we've been told not actual truth. We all know now how media is controlled and manipulated to show the viewers exactly what they want them to see not the actual truth.

The internet and connecting millions of people around the world has changed everything as everything is debunked now and real evidence is posted online. 70% of the terrorist attacks in the last few years were setup, if you don't believe me don't argue with me just go research.

You'll find truth if you are hungry enough for it.

  19. The having a following part shouldn't hold much weight. What's a circus to a clown? Also there are many youtubers out there with disabilities or other handicaps (both mentally and physically) that have rather large followings.
We describe him as crazy to differentiate from what's considered normal and acceptable. Manson was definitely psychotic, there's no doubt about it but the reason WHY is what should be important.

  20. In summation: "I sympathize with a murderous cult leader who orchestrated the brutal killing of several people in an attempt to pin it on black revolutionaries, thus inflaming a race war, an idea he concocted by a highly personalized reading of the song Helter Shelter by the Beatles. Because the government is bad. Coffee is legal but LSD isn't? Educate yourself. The government. I'm essentially a gross parody of the aging hippie who believe anything--and I mean anything--that is congenial to my counter-culture aesthetic."
