So first off I wanted to say I love the herb and am not trying to discredit it's great properties but I needed to get this out there for people to see so that they can all learn from my experiences. I am 24 and way too young to have bladder cancer. I have never drank alcohol or smoked cigarettes. I have a fairly healthy diet of non-processed foods, eating a lot of fish, chicken, eggs, and rice. I have never worked with dyes or harsh chemicals. The only real borderline "unhealthy" habit I have had is that I regularly smoked marijuana for about 3-4 years. I would smoke around 2 maybe three times a day at some points only taking breaks in my smoking habits for tolerance breaks. Long story short I was peeing some blood on/off for a year or so. It would come and then go away and I thought maybe I had just irritated and had a cut in there by having sex with my girlfriend or something haha. But I ended up going into the uroligist who ordered a CT scan to see if I had any kidney stones. (a common cause for hematuria, or blood in the urine) and to my surprise they found a large bladder polyp! They performed a trans urethral bladder resection and the biopsy came back positive for non-invasive transitional cell carcinoma, BLADDER CANCER. My family has had some history of cancers but no history of bladder cancers, so a genetic predisposition for cancer may have been a contributing factor. Now comes the bombshell for all the tokers out there. I have a feeling that my excessive ganja smoking may have caused the growth. The docs always asked me the same two questions every time I would visit them, "have you ever worked with dyes or harsh chemicals?" and "have you ever smoked cigarettes?" I said no to both because I hadn't, but when the doctor explained to me that it wasn't the chemicals in cigarettes that caused this kind of cancer, it was carcinogens I had an epiphany. The carcinogens from all those blunts, all those pipe hits, all the bong rips, was probably doing damage to my urinary tract as well as my throat and lungs. I mean, think about it, when cleaning out a pipe or a bong you have all this resin and tar and sticky gross burnt weed that you are actually inhaling 2 to 3 times a day. These carcinogens will travel through your body and lay at rest in your bladder where the lining of your bladder may start replicating cells out of control and cause a cancerous growth. Now I'm not saying that weed causes cancer, or even that THC causes cancer, but rather the gunk you are breathing in that is doing this. I consider myself lucky to have caught the cancer so early and I urge others that if you are going to use marijuana to use it in the wisest ways possible. Namely, using a vape or cooking a brownie instead of using a pipe, bong, blunt, one hitter, etc because you may be doing as much damage as smoking a cigarette! Now I know I am going to get responses from people that say, "OH, i have smoked ginormous fatties for 70 years and never had a single medical problem!" While that may be the case for some people, everyone is different. Your genetics may have a predisposition for cancer, they may not. But as with anything take this for what it's worth, internet advice. Am I positive that smoking weed caused my cancer? No, I am not a doctor or scientist. But there are some recent studies that say marijuana may be a factor. I am not condemning the use of marijuana and I really believe that it is a great medicine to help with depression, anxiety, loss of appetite, among other things. But use it wisely and don't do unnecessary damage to your body! Do yourself a favor and grab a vape or cook a brownie!
yea im going to have to disagree with you. i dont know what caused your cancer, and i am truly sorry to hear thats happening to you. but peeing blood is a huge red flag, and ignoring it for a year (thats a long ass time man) is.. well, irresponsible to say the least.
Yeah I should have seen a doctor sooner, but without medical insurance it is a hard thing to justify when I am peeing blood one day and the next Im completely fine. Are you saying that carcinogens can't be a contributing factor when causing cancer? also as a side note I wasn't peeing blood every day, like once every other month if even that.
im not saying that, because by definition carcinogens are substances capable of causing cancer. however, cannabis smoke has been shown to kill several cancer types including lung cancer, breast and prostate, leukemia and lymphoma, glioma, skin cancer, and pheochromocytoma. linking your case of bladder cancer to cannabis off an assumption is quite a stretch. but yea, if youre peeing blood i would see a doctor after one occurrence, and certainly after multiple occasions.
Now I am not too well versed on the use of cannabis when it comes to killing cancer cells, but is it the cannabis smoke that kills the cells or the cannabinoids present in the smoke that kills them? Can you get the same benefits from vaping instead of smoking?
it's the cannabinoids. smoking anything is harmful for your lungs so vaping is probably healthier in that realm.
TRPV2 activation induces apoptotic cell death in human T24 bladder cancer cells: a potential therapeutic target for bladder cancer. (abst – 2010) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20546877 (Uses CBD and another compound to kill bladder cancer cells) Magnolol suppresses hypoxia-induced angiogenesis via inhibition of HIF-1α/VEGF signaling pathway in human bladder cancer cells (abst – 2013) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23416116 (This talks about Magnolol killing bladder cancer cells by activating the CB2 receptors (just like THC does), unlike THC, magnolol does not activate the CB1 (the high) receptors. ) Study claims marijuana tied to lower bladder cancer risk (news – 2013) http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/05/11/study-claims-marijuana-tied-to-lower-bladder-cancer-risk/2153019/ and a just quote from that last article- "Cannabis use only was associated with a 45 percent reduction in bladder cancer incidence, and tobacco use only was associated with a 52 percent increase in bladder cancer," said study author Dr. Anil A. Thomas, a fellow in urology at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Los Angeles. Smoking both tobacco and marijuana raised the risk of bladder cancer, but less so than for those who only smoked tobacco" Granny
Geeze lueeze! If you can afford to buy weed, you can see a doctor about pissing blood. One occasion is enough to warrant some basic testing. Many clinics and county facilities in the U.S. offer a sliding pay scale. You show them your paycheck stub, or proof of income and they charge you according to your income bracket.
Everyone seems to be more concerned about my responsibility in finding medical assistance. I assure you that after the third or fourth time that i see blood in my urine that I went to a walk in clinic for $200 bucks out of pocket and they had me piss in a cup and then told me it was nothing to worry about that sometimes you can have abrasions that would cause hematuria and to seek out a uroligist if it persists, which is what I did. I was in a unique position where I was getting my bud for free anyways so my habit wasnt hurting me financially. Also, before I was diagnosed with cancer I was able to get insurance so I am now able to more actively seek medical attention without hesitation.
Very informative. They seem to state more about CBD's than consuming bud with fire and the risks associated with it. I am open to claims that marijuana can remiss cancer and slow its growth or even kill the cells, but I am talking about carcinogens from burning a plant and inhaling it.
If you drink tap water a lot then the fluoride could've caused the cancer. Tap water has mercury and lead in it, too, depending on where you live Sent from my iPad Air
Others already harped on seeking medical attention so I won't but damn! If I pissed anything other than clear/yellow my ass would be at the doctor's. The one thing that confused me is you said the tar and resin end up sitting in your bladder. Do you have some unheard of lung to bladder connection? Because that could be a problem. Unless you're drinking liquid resin I don't see that happening.
right here...everyone seems to know the drill... check list: [x] new account [x] scary pot story [x] supported by new accounts. [x] uses fallacies not facts or proof please do add to the list...it is getting silly. All this propaganda boom in the last few months since mj has gone legal in 2 states and in one country...
Carbon monoxide is known carcinogen. This is not news. Just saying. All smokers are at a risk regardless of what you smoke Sent from my LG-E739 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
You receive far less from a few doobs a day than you do filling the car with petrol, or breathing exhaust on your daily commute. Radiation from your microwave? Have you ever read anything by Nikola Tesla concerning electromagnetic waves and ungated, unfiltered radiation radiation that would come from something such as say, a PC monitor. To make a long story short...you are risking more by sitting in front of your PC posting about the dangers of smoking weed.
of course could be your genetics but realize environmental factors have much more to do with people becoming sick. Many NEVER find out why and its swept under the rug- think Erin brockovich I live near the Hudson River in New York State part of massive industrial manufacturing in the new england area and still is. You may have heard of General Electric also know as G.E. founded by Thomas Edison. Over 30 YEARS this company dumped hundreds of thousands if not Millions of pounds of Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) made for motors, transformers and etc directly into the river. So much, FISHING was BANNED for years now its only catch an release. Many residents can recall seeing disgusting colored crap floating in the river all day. The same water they were drinking. not to mention sewage was also directly routed into the river as well. Most riverside residents died of cancer as direct result of immune infections as a result of PCB's destroying immune systems. what you consume- Air, Water, Food all contributing to a person complete well being.
I appreciate all the response I am getting from this. Perhaps smoking was only one of many contributing factors to my cancer. In fact, the response about carbon monoxide hits home for me as I live in an area with HEAVY air pollution. But I still firmly believe that why take the risk of breathing smoke when you have healthier alternatives? I'm not saying don't smoke, in fact I LOVE smoking, I just think that something that could be potentially harming you like breathing smoke should be taken in great moderation.
