A buddy who made his 'fortune' in selling Granny Buggies, for once showed up in his new Volvo XC60, after some serious toking we took it for a blast in the city wanting to test out all this safety stuff, one in particular was the stoners delight, auto braking As in how close can you get to a car/tree/pole/person before the car auto brakes, at about 30Km/19mph Things were going great until we drove thru a mall at 3am with the night clubbers getting out ..all boozy and fighty, one guy was so wasted , he just wouldn't get out of the way, as such we couldn't move either until the sensor saw no obstruction...Oh Great! Spoiler The XC60 includes traditional Volvo safety features including a whiplash protection system, side impact protection system, roll stability control, dynamic stability and traction control, inflatable curtain airbags, hill descent control (AWD only), collision warning with brake support, active bi-xenon lights (optional on some models), and patented front, side, and rear structures. The XC60 also introduced a new technology feature that Volvo has named City safety. The system is described as a driver support system with the goal of preventing or mitigating vehicle-on-vehicle collisions below 30 km/h (19 mph); it does so through the use of a closing velocity sensor that helps determine whether a collision is likely. Depending on the speed, if a collision is likely, the Volvo's computer system will either prepare the car to brake or automatically brake the vehicle to avoid or mitigate a rear-end collision After a few minutes cops hassled us ..We said we were window cleaners late for work ...lol They left as did the crowd, but its a thought that with just a little dirt in the sensor, that poor boozer sitting back on our bumper could have easy gone under the wheel. On reflection its a great stoner aid, more so at lights, parking etc ...but then again do I ever clean my cars or any sensor for that matter note to buddy: Volvo Recalling All 2019, 2020 Models for Automated-Brake Problem
It's scary to think that autonomous driving cars are much safer than those driven by your everyday drunk, texting, burger eating idiots.
I think my mom had an xc90 which is almost the same car for a while when I was in middle school. Super comfortable car after a long day to get in.
I don't think that such a thing existed back then lol I'm guessing new ones have that? Like that thing that detects when pedestrians run out in front of the car? That def wasn't around and can't speak to that. Nice SUVs though, especially with a V8.
