First time grow, first post on GC. decided i was going to grow a couple plants in my closet. bought some seeds (G13 X HIndu Kush). and thats when i started reading the GC forums. i now realize that its not just putting it under lights and waiting. i know my first grow is pretty much botched. but it will be a learning experience for me heres the setup Miracle grow organic soil sunsystem 150w hps 2X2 area with white/black lightproof stuff 4 plants hepefilter air purifier with neg. ionic something (replacing a fan) so.... light is about a foot from the seelings, they seem to be stretching quite abit. all the other posts that relate to this are cfl lights and ppl tell them to put them closer. im afraid the hps will burn them if i put it closer, also people have said to bury them deep when transplanting. i however just put them in the big pots first i thought it would make my life easier. too many plants? just wait it out let them get stronger? all help and advice will be greatly accepted and no nutes yet. i was goin to ask what i should use. thanks
You might try a fan blowing on them, but not too hard...this tends to make for stronger stems. Think like there blowing gently in a light breeze. A 150w hps is not that powerful (don't get me wrong, it will work fine) so I would maybe try to get it a little closer to slow down any stretching...the hand test will give you some idea, but start getting it as close as you can without cooking the tops, and the fan moving air around will make this easier also by helping keep the plants cooler. MG soil has several mixes...some are quite "hot"...you shouldn't need to add any nutes for some time, especially if it's a time release like 3 month or 6 month. It should tell you all that on the bag. Just keep an eye on them and watch the ph and water regularly properly and you should be fine.
i put the air purifier i have blowing towards them. That should do the same right? As for soil, it happened to fill my four pots and i threw away the bag but i could check the store and see what it was. and i still need to get some ph test strips. thanks alot for the help. ill post in a couple days with how they're doing. another question. pictures. i have some, but is it safe to post online?
LOL! That's the $64 question....Who knows? I don't post pics, but there are plenty here that seem to have no problem with it...Don't post them from a phone because they can be geographically tagged.
thats pretty much what i expected. im just gonna leave the pictures out. Another issue that i thought of. my grow area has three solid walls, the fourth just being a flap of tarp. my airpurifier is set so the intake can get some air through the flaps and blow it towards the plants, but all of this is in a normal sliding closet(left the closet open a little). do you think it is getting enough fresh air?
Just a little update. plants are doin alright now. this was way more difficult than i expected. but thanks to GC all my questiones have already been asked and have lots of answers for. I over wattered them, they got fungus gnats, and seemed to be moving along at a very slow pace. Since then i've gotten some nutes, relaxed on the wattering and added some hydrogen peroxide in with the water to kill off the gnat larvae (guy at the hydro store sold me some same brand as my nutes). They were looking great. i tried fimming them, i think it worked im not sure about one of them. I'll know in another day or so. now the leaves started bending inwards, i read it might have been the lights were too close so i raised them more. and thats where im at they look good, good colour just the slight bending of the leaves. its been exactly one month since i germed em but they dont look ready at all for 12/12 so im just gonna let it grow till it seems right.
