very first grow

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by joe_fungi, Jan 6, 2021.

  1. hi fellow growers,
this is my very first grow, I am completely new to anything according cannabis and would like to ease my constant joint pain, insomnia etc. with it.
I have a 2" x 2" (height 160cm) Secret Jardin DS60 tent, use light mix in fabric pots (7 l). I use liquid fertilizers for vegging, flowering and water every 2nd day using 1l water altogether.
started with HPS, but switched to led - Mars Hydro TS1000 - as temps were around 30C with the HPS, now I have around 23C in the tent.
the light is ~55cm above the flowers, is this ok? unfortunately I missed to lower the light at the start of vegging, should I do it the next time and what should be the ideal distance?
how should I set the intensity of the led light? I set it to 75, then increased for flowering.
I bought 4 seedlings, 2 Girl Scout Cookies and 2 Green Crack on Nov 10th. let them in vegetation phase for 3 weeks, then did 36h lights off and switched to 12/12 on Dec 2nd.
in vegging I did topping and LST. I defoliate constantly also in flowering.
so today should be 35th day of flowering, their height is ~40cm. What do you think, do the ladies look fine? Should they be bigger? how are the buds?
when should I flush? when should I harvest? what should I optimize for next time?
please let me know any hints, tips! any feedback is very welcome!
thank you very much and have great day!
    greetings

  3. Looks like alot of stretch, next time keep the light closer, and did u only top?

  4. Oh I didnt read your full post, my bad... next time keep light 2 ft from plant at 100% and that will fix the stretching.... everything else looks like u did superb... unless u have a microscope to view trichomes then just wait until u no longer see any white hairs then start ur flush and ur good to go!

Looks really good! Let's see these questions, I would give them as much light as you can in flower, I would not defoliate constantly as you say. Maybe in veg or before you flip them if you want to defoliate. Buds look good.

The leaves you keep ripping off are solar panels for the light..

They look like they have a few weeks to go still. They look healthy

You wanna watch the leaf tips for nute burn. Looks decent tho overall well done!

Maybe an air cooled hood would help with your heat issues of the HPS, how many watts was it? Even if it was 250 it would make a giant difference in the flower quality vs the mars hydro. But for one plant, that mars hydro pumping out 150w is good

That minor stretch was probably caused by the HPS, people use hps from start to finish and it works great. If you really want to step up the game start with a MH bulb for veg then HPS for flower.

But right now everything looks good mars is an okay light

  6. @Anonymous710 thank you very much for your response! Is stretching bad? The plants are only around 40 cm, so not much higher than 1 ft.
I have a small microscope, what should I look for to start the flush? Is it necessary for the flush to soak/wash the soil or can I just stop adding nutrients to the water? I am afraid because of mold and had already white powdery mildew on soil first then on GSC leaves, GC by the way seems more robust, but for GSC it kept coming back. I put a second fan in the tent and sand on top of the soil. Next time I plan to put perlite right at the start on top of the soil and also water less.
After the flush start I still have around two weeks before harvest, am I correct?
    Thank you!

  7. Thank you very much @Patricia Clemons for your response! I am so happy, that my first grow will be successful. I did not really see nute burns, had issues with white powdery mildew, but only on the two GSC, also in veg when I overwatered white bugs started to appear on the soil surface. So I started to add neem oil once every week to the water, which seemed to help, white bugs disappeared after couple of weeks and also the sand covering the soil helped.

I have a Sylvania SHP-TS Super HPS 150 W, when temps got high I thought about cool tube, but unfortunately I could not get one, which would fit, in a reasonable time and for an acceptable price, getting the mars hydro had to be the quick solution. So you mean using HPS buds get bigger?

I have also the feeling that I defoliated too much and growth was stalling a bit, I wanted to prevent getting to bushy, maybe I also have to top earlier, to get a better scrog, but space is so limited, very crowded. I just got a second 2"x2" tent, bit shorter, only with height 140cm, maybe I put only two plants inside!? Should I remove more stems/branches in veg? Would less bud sites allow them to get bigger then and easier to handle? Is there any good advice how to form the plants? I like lollipopping and topping, scrog seems to be nice and reasonable, but I had a hard time to decide what and how to cut away.
    Thank you!

  8. 150w hps and that mars hydro will yield similar results, they're both 150 true watts and that led is decent.

Here's a grow I did a while back indoors, this is somewhat what an okay scrog, as you can see indoor grow one way to do it is to get a flat canopy so they all get light.

I'm outdoor now and but as far as lollipopping I would say it's good to do inside, remove the lower third of growth which wouldn't really get light anyways

I used a net on the second pic, not the first. You can really top whenever, I started my grow with a 600w MH bulb so I had very short tight bushes of a plant.

The lower pic is my second indoor grow I tried lollipopping, it was my first attempt and I let it get pretty crowded in there hah.

  9. You take some clones before you flower. Either way looks good to me man you will have enough buds to finish another run.

  10. @Patricia Clemons oh yeah, these look very nice! Don't you have any issues with air circulation or do you have fans below and above canopy? Or should there be no mold or mildew if watering is done properly?

  11. Your definitely going to want air circulation, above and below the canopy is ideal and can be done with cheap fans or expensive ones. Just need to blow a little air around
