Very first attempt to grow

Discussion in 'Marijuana Growing Guides' started by Horned Majesty, Jun 6, 2020.

  1. Hello everyone.
This is my very first attempt and I'm pretty much discovering everything on the fly. I seeded 2 diesel automatic plants almost 2 weeks ago. One has curled down leaves, which I believe is due to underwatering. Also both were disturbed by my cat last night, so I will move the pots outside his reach during the night from now on.
What you guys think, any advice for a total noob on growing?

  2. I would be watering about 2 inches around the stem to the stem until run off every 3 or so days slowly so you don't move the plant around but if you do you can quickly but gently move it back before the water settles. I would also look into repotting in more aerated soil. its possible to grow like that but more difficult, easy to over water or over feed if you don't quite know what your doing yet. I would also keep my light as close as they could stand it to prevent any stretching. they are about to start growing. good luck bud

  3. Thank you for taking the time man
I don't have access right now to any other soil due the restrictions, tho I will be buying perlite tomorrow. I'm not using bulbs either, just sun light. I can't really afford a tend or the electricity until I can get back to work. Will that impact the end result significantly? On the nutrients side Ive bought some tomato-growing nutrients, which seem to have everything I have read online they will need during the flowering phase. Should I add something else to the mix? Thanks again

  4. Sorry I forgot to add the images of the nutrients

  5. yea just throw them outdoors no need to attempt a indoor grow without lights. they stretch, flower early , and produce small airy buds if grown indoors using sunlight. I am not sure about the nutrients
    Seedling 5-3-4
    Vegetative 5-2-3
    Flowering 5-5-3
that's the suggested npk numbers for the different stages of cannabis. you would also need some calmag. don't know what your soil is so cant say when you should start feeding. I grow in organic soil and don't need to feed until week 4 or 5. normally I will get a ppm reading of the run off and that will suggest when they need food. when ppm drops below 400 I add calmag to even it back out then when I need more ppm than what the suggested serving of calmag give I add seedling nutes ( big bloom ) then after I need more ppms than what the calmag and big bloom gives I start with veg nutes ( grow big ) first part of veg 300-400ppms second part of veg 450-700ppms first part of flower 750-950ppms second part of flower 1,000-1,600ppms

  6. Ok, the babies have been outside since I read your advice and yesterday I was finally able to mix the soil with perlite. I watered the soil before repotting so I don't need to disturb them any further for a while. The soil I'm using is grandiol multipurpose compost, which is labelled as having sufficient nutrients for house plants during the first four weeks, which I'm not entirely sure what it means but I'm being extra careful about the nutrients due to that.
The plants haven't grown an awful lot this week, but given that the cat disturbed them badly before my first post (he managed to pull them out without damaging the roots somehow) and that the soil without perlite wasn't the best to let them breathe I'm not surprised this week wasn't the most exciting. On the good side, specialised shops are open again since yesterday, so I'll be able to get what I need to correct the nutrients. How do they look to you?

  7. I do not have any experience with a completed grow but looking at your pics from one week of growth I think I would expect to see more growth. Maybe it’s normal.

Anyway what I noticed is on your second photo above this plant is continuing stretching. I wonder if you have a spot you could get them some more sunlight.

How many hours do they get a day?

  8. Sadly, the balcony is the best place i can put them. We have 18 hours of sunlight this time of the year, but I started the grow indoors in front of the window, so the stretching is probably due to that (I know, I'm such a noob).

I'm not sure if it's normal that they stopped growing the last week, but two days before my post my cat decided to pull them out of the pot, which must leave been a shock for them, and in fairness I wasn't sure if they would survive until the day I posted the first time. I heard is not uncommon for them to delay a week of growth after a pet attack, but I'm seeing some development in the leaves the past few days that gives me hope. I guess for now all I can do is wait and see

  9. My first grow as well!

They do seem tiny, but stay with them. I know mine went through phases were they seemed to grow slow then BAM! huge growth.

I started keeping a mostly daily grow journal. I wish I would have done it from the day I actually planted the seeds so I could really get a true day-by-day account. However, I started it shortly after they sprouted. Perhaps the pictures/dates there will help you compare the growth to yours as well? If so, here's the link: My first grow

  10. Yeah your cat didn’t help you there. But they look like they will recover up

Consider adding some supplemental overhead lighting indoors if you can.

  11. Your plants look great, you clearly plan everything way better than I did. I'm definitely keeping an eye on your journal as a reference:)

  12. Good and bad news. One of my plants is looking back on track. The other one is looking more and more sad with each day. I treat them the same, so I don't know what could it be. Maybe she's having a hard time overcoming the trauma? What you guys think? First pic is the happy plant, second is the sad one

sorry man i've never used that, i dont know how hot it runs to respond on the feeding and i dont know if it contains perlite or how big your pot is not much to go off of. i mist a 1/2 gallon starter pot usually until the 2nd or 3rd true leave then i will soak the pot usally after a couple soaks its time for transplant. i get ppm readings from my run off on water only days to help adjust my feeding more or less or none at all.
300-400 ppms first part of veg
    450-650ppms second part of veg
    700-950 first part of flower
    1,000-1,600ppms second part of flower
those numbers can be adjust per plant but ive found these will most likely not toxify your plants. this past grow i was giving them 1200ppms just starting flower not the max 950 suggested but as said you cant mess up too bad following that guide phosphorus deficiency and cal/mag deficiency is all ive ever had minus the newbie over under watering. depending on the organic compounds of your soil you may not have to feed right off hand, I use fox farm ocean forest it feeds 4 to 6 weeks by itself i may add cal/mag week 3 or so if its not growing like i think it should, good luck hope that helps some

  17. I personally water by hand as i don't have too many plants, but water often and little ~ This is just my preference. The ideal scenario would be to have drippers, but i enjoy watering by hand, and can these days with all this time on my hands...

I personally like to grow in coco and feed heavy as long as the plant allows. I find the first signs are usually leaves curling in from excess N - in which case it would be best to flush and back off the nutes a bit. I personally grow autos and start feeding at 20% of the recommended nute mix when plant busts out its first proper set of leaves.

    Good luck with the grow

this is an old post and irrelevant to the thread poster by this time. so let me get this straight. you recommend flushing a 5 gallon pot with a seedling?. and you also recommend putting a constant drip on soil? also what makes you think its nitrogen, just the curled tip?
