vermiculite perlite soilless mix for seedlings?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by tiktok420, Oct 8, 2006.

  1. Can seedlings be grown in a 50/50 mix of vermiculite and perlite? I have seen others use this mix for clones. I was wondering if it was possible to use this mix with seedlings?

The reason why I am asking is that I have some seedlings in some peat moss and perlite and it is garbage. I cannot get the PH up to an acceptable level and I need to find a better solution for my babies fast before its too late.

    Thanks in advance!!

  2. I believe virtually any plant can be grown in a soilless mix, even some cactus nurseries don´t use soil any more.

If you just give your roots a medium to grip, you can then supply all nutes in liquid form, and have better control over things like pH. And pests tend not to like to grow in a soilless medium.

    Good luck.

  3. Thanks spanishfly. I have always heard good things about soilless. For a soilless mix I read that 1 part peat moss, 1 part perlite, and 1 part vermiculite, and of course lime. The problem is even with the lime its still hard to get the PH levels correct because of the peat moss. I was just wondering why not just use vermiculite and perlite only. I was hoping that someone has tried this before.

Thanks for you input : )

  5. yeah, i use perlite and vermiculite for my seedlings and also all my plants. its great for all kinds of growing and some growers even grow trees. the peat is good but alot of people have problems like u. but experienced growers use it and it can be done . they say 1 tsp of lime per gallon of soil. i think the 50/50 mix is best for soilless app. but im a novice 2 but i read alot , go to www.schundler.com/hort.htm and check that out.. you'll find all your awnswers there!-----hey,has anyone ever grown big bud?
