Venting Question w/scrubber

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by blizzt, May 13, 2011.

  1. I want to improve my heat control and reduce odor.

I have 1 175 cfm Vortex fan. Several duct booster fans. Lots of ducting. I use a 600 watt HPS with lens in a 4x4x6 room.

    See attached diagram.

I want to pull the air through the hood, exhausting the grow room air, blowing through the scrubber which is attached on the outside of the grow room wall.

Will this fan be strong enough to cool the room when attached to a scrubber?

Also from the FAQ is the formula LxWxH/5=CFM is not to control heat, what is it for?

I saw some complex formula for controlling heat but that is more math then I care to perform. :)

  2. The equation refers to how often the fan replaces the air in the compartment. LxWxH gives you the cubic feet of the compartment (CF), and dividing by five tells you how many CFM's would be needed to replace the air in that compartment in five minutes. The equation isn't very helpful for heat issues, it merely refers to how often you replace the air for freshness/odor purposes.

  3. I was thinking about doing the same thing, except I'd be cooling a 1000w bulb in a 4x4 space with a 115cfm fan. I've been told that I'd need at least a 400w CFM fan to cool the bulb, but question that as I know 400cfm is a huge amount of power. I'm still stuck on what to do as of now. I'll be checking in on future answers for help as well.
