is there a bathroom down there? rip out the fart fan... and put a inline fan into where the fan use to be and use that to exhaust the grow and to cool your light
Whether it has a bathroom or not, or a fart ejector fan or not, it alone (usually has a 3" or 4" exhaust duct) will probably not provide enough fresh air and if you divide it in half to get fresh air in also, there won't be enough for either, unless it's a very small grow... you're going to have to figure a way to get fresh air in as well as hot air out...you gonna use the entire basement to grow in? If not, use a tent or other enclosure for the grow room (trying to keep the grow space as small as feasible) and just use the "other" basement air to keep things cool, other than that, your gonna have to knock some holes somewhere. You might look for a "chase" to the attic...see if you have a false space that runs from the attic to the basement...if you're lucky enough to find one, run ducts in and out and you'll have the fresh air and venting these need to grow properly.
How do you vent a closet grow? Do you drill a big hole in a wall? If you had a 400W HID in a closet, could you just put a big fan towards the light and open the door everyday for fresh air...would that be sufficient? I want to start my first grow and ventilation is the most off-putting aspect of this venture.
If a window box is not feasible, you can leave the closet door open, say halfway or maybe a little less and then make an enclosure that houses two fans, one high exhausting, and one low bringing in fresh air...I made it with some of that 2" thick foam board....it is not airtight, but it makes the air in the closet move correctly....bringing cold air in down low and exhausting hot air out the top. My closet is right next to a bathroom with a window I can open for fresh air.
Okay so im not using the entire basement I just ordered a grow tent from amazon [ame]http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VW6ILE/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A2GUMCXR7HBXM2[/ame] What do you guys suggest doing about the ventilation for the floor? Should I stick an intake fan so its putting fresh air in through the bottom and exhausting the hot air from the top?
Yup! Good choice....it should be a lot easier to control temps and humidity in the tent. Hot air rises, take advantage of this fact! I believe most tents are set up for ventilation, so hopefully it will be easy....now go read some threads about closet and tent growing while you wait for it to get here! Ck out some tent grow logs and get some ideas going! Edit...Sorry I didn't see you had pics of it! It looks to me like it's set up with flaps down low and a fan outlet at the top left of the pic...find out what fan they recommend and just open and close the flaps as needed to control airflow, thus controlling temps! And let us know how the tent thing works out!
