Hi all, I have a ventilation question. My grow room is an upstairs bedroom closet that measures 3.5 x 3.5 x 8 = 98 cubic feet. I plan to run a 600 watt HPS bulb inside a Daystar air-cooled hood with 6" flanges. I will vent the room using an 8" Elicent inline fan rated at 636 CFM. I will have a carbon filter attached to this fan, and the humid grow room air will be scrubbed and vented outside the house. I will cool the light using a 6" Elicent inline fan rated at 300 CFM. The air flowing through the light will be sucked from my upstairs bedroom, through the light, and then vented "somewhere" outside the grow room. And here's my question: Can I safely vent this air into the attic? Remember, the humid grow room air will be vented outside the house. The air cooling the light will come from my upstairs bedroom (which is not very humid) and will never mix with grow room air (the hood is air-tight). I realize that venting humid air into the attic is a bad idea, because of increased probability of mold. But I was hoping that I could get away with venting the "light cooling" air into the attic. What do you think?
I dont think it will hurt anything. But why use 2 fans, your 8 inch fan has alot more CFM then you really need for the size of your room and to run both your carbon filter and light hood for venting. You might want to look into a fan speed controller, that big of a fan wouldnt need to run at max speed.
Well, I looked into using just the 8" 636 CFM fan for everything (scrub the air, vent the room, and cool the light). I wanted to do it that way, but I didn't know if the fan was strong enough for that. I may give it a try. For such a small grow room (small number of plants), do you think venting everything into the attic could cause moisture/mold problems in the attic? I'd love to vent everything into the attic if possible. This would save me from having to cut an 8" hole in my house. Thanks for your help.
I dont think it would be a problem. If you got air vents or turbins in your attic that to me would also help disipate what little humidity venting your tent into the attic would generate.
I use a single 6†fan on two 400w hoods in a tent and have no problems, one thing you might consider is this R & M Supply, Inc. - Variable Fan Speed Controller Day/Night I was surprised by how well it works, it keeps the temp rock solid, before I had the manual dial controller and was constantly adjusting to keep the temp in range.
I dont think humidity will be a problem. But id vent threw duct work and hang it to exhaust into the middle most part of the attic, or out a roof vent. IF not on cold nights it might drip on the ceiling.
I just started running trial on my setup today. I have a 4x4x6.5 tent and a 533 CFM fan/filter cooling my 6" 600w and it's overkill. I have to get a speed controller myself... I'm deciding between these two: VSC-DNe Day/Night Variable Fan Speed Controller at Sunburst Hydroponics [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Speedster-variable-Fan-speed-control/dp/B000HQAVNI]Amazon.com: Speedster/ variable Fan speed control: Patio, Lawn & Garden[/ame]
Yeah, I'm gonna get the VSC-DNe and save myself some money and frustration. No need to upgrade later.
