Hey all- I'm back with some questions about trimming. I have four most sativa dominant plants going right now. I have topped 2 of the 4, solely for experimental purposes. Anyhoo, they are in veg right now and I'm about a day until the flowering cycle. What are the general rules of pruning to maximize productivity...or are there any? I know a person that recommends having less than 10 colas per plant. However, this person was growing 3-4-5 ft plants. I don't have much more than 10 colas per plant, so here is the question: Do I want to trim the growth at the lower parts of the colas? Does this result in bigger buds at the near top or top of the cola? Does this make any difference? Is there a certain amout of flowering hormones that a plant, at any given time, can devote to its respective colas? I hope this makes sense. Thanks for all whom respond
First of all how long ago did you top the plants? Whe you trim a plant it diffuses floral hormones and can retard the plant for a month untill levels are back to normal. If you chose to go on anyway the pruning location on the plant directs energy to different parts of the plant chaging it to meet your needs. I do know that trimming the bottom branches will direct more energy to the buds. Do you have more than 10 colas right now? sorry couldn't be more help, hard time figuring out what you were asking.
Basically what I'm asking is whether or not to limit the number of colas and trim the growth on the lower part of each cola, since it doesn't receive much light. Sorry. I topped the plants way back before transplanting them.
