Vacuum sealing question

Discussion in 'Harvesting and Processing Marijuana' started by Markari, Nov 28, 2020.

  1. I can’t find research on this so I’ll ask for opinions...

Last grow I dried my harvest for 5 days until the stems would break instead of bend, trimmed, then put everything into mason jars with Boveda packs for a month to cure, then vacuum sealed everything. Now comes the confusing part...

I pack a half ounce at a time and open a bag at a time, using a grinder to mince it for my pipe when my jar starts getting low. A couple of jar-filling times ago I noticed that one of the bags had lost its seal and the buds had all loosened up again from a very firm pack. I ground it up, smoked a bowl, and got much higher than I had been. Then I purposely stuck a pin in one bag each of my three strains, and stuck these in a jar with a boveda pack. They stayed in the jar several weeks, and with each strain I would get higher than if I ground it up coming straight out of vacuum seal. It’s like letting the buds loosen up makes them more potent. Or, I’m high enough to just think I’m getting higher.

So has anyone else noticed this? Is there a fact based reason for this, or am I just that high?

  2. Vacuuming removes the oxygen that drives the Oxidation-Cure. You basically stopped any further Curing at that stage.
I do a minimum 60 day cure after a controlled slow dry to 65%. What does happen is the ratio of THC to CBD changes as well as the rest of the spectrum of Cannabinoids have time to reach full maturity. I've been at this a long time and I know how I want my stone and parts of that is just Time. Some good things can't be rushed.
Mind you this is all my opinion pulled outta my ass and has no basis in tested scientific fact.

Empirical testing. I tried vacuuming sealing about 4 years ago. Same reason I cure for 60 days in glass with Boveda packs before I smash all that lovely bud to scraps for the kief it holds. I learned just harvested buds even grown long with plenty of amber still had a racy, sharp edge to it I don't care for. A couple of months in the jar brings it down a notch and mellows the stone to where I like it best.

I make very strong hash based Capsules and all to often I take just a wee bit to much and get a hell of a ride.
Making sure that is as moderate and low intensity is a smart idea. This stuff is a very intense hallucinogenic at the doses I take. The last thing I need is for it to feel like fingernails on a chalkboard times ten.

  3. Good stuff to know. I only grow a years worth at a time. So I think I’ll try just keeping this next harvest packed in jars with Boveda packs until needed. I’m not sure what that last paragraph means, but I want some. Thanks again.

  4. Three rounds of Colon surgery left me in considerable pain. Feels like a hand in my guts twisting and yanking.
Cannabis puts that to sleep like turning off a light.

BadKats Hash oil was a godsend to me as 1 or 2 capsules per day keeps me pain free. As strong as her oil is I need it on the mellow side so I'm not climbing the walls when I take a lot of it.
Early harvest and short cure both tend to have anxiety issues that can feel like a speedball if you dose really high.

My much shorter thread covers the how of making them.
