Hey blades. Been trying to make a few extra bucks and came up with the idea to squeeze all I can from my house.

What are some pplants who's value is high and are sellable?

    My thoughts so far
    Tobacco
    Tomatoes
    Berries maybe

Pretty sure the last 2 are legal in my state but not as much demand for them probly

  2. No takers?

Anyone have experience growing tobacco? Is it sellable

  3. You can always grow some veggies organically and sell them at a farmers market. depending on where you are, people will buy that stuff up

  4. Our farmers market is literally hours away, if you're in an area like mine you could probably sell them from your house haha

  5. Great post! Subbed and hoping some more chime in.

  6. If you can find a place to sell them, grow ornamentals and sell the shit out of them. Veggies take most of the season before you could make any cash. You can start flowers indoors under good lighting and move outdoors to harden off and transition. Ornamentals will sell for a few dollars each normally, and you can grow quite a few in the same space as one good producing tomato or pepper plant. Coleus would be an easy one to grow quickly because you take cutiings, root them in 7 days and have a plant you can sell for $2 to $3. You could easily take 10 to 20 cuttings every week or so from a large bushy plant.

  7. Please go on. I know little about flowers.

    What are some good examples?

  8. Bump

Other then weed does no one sell plants from their yard?

  9. a buddy of mine grew his own hops and sold some of the beer he made with it..im not sure on the legality of that though lol

  10. Tobacco takes a lot of space, time, curing, etc.

Some easy cut flowers are zinnias, they come up in about 6 weeks. Sunflowers are always a sure hit. Cherry tomatoes. Basil is great, because if it doesn't sell, you can make it into pesto and sell that.

if you look through Johnny's Seeds online catalog, you'll see their market growers selections, what time to plant for your zone, and get a sense of what's popular: anything with lots of varieties of seeds usually means it'll sell.

Market growers have hard work: lots of standing around time, waking up early, loading in, loading out, selling, and then there's the garden itself. That's why you'll see people with selections of things like cut flowers, plants, preserves, herbs. The milk lady will also sell yogurt and butter. You can't always sell things right away, so you want to make sure you calculate in that potential loss.

Hit up your farmer's market and talk to people. (and buy something from them, because it's good manners and good for you.) get a CSA box. Heck, you can even go to the grocery and start to see what flowers might be local, as opposed to those grown in, say, Chile.

    Good luck!

  11. Hubby grew his own tobacco- exactly ONE year! Not worth the hassle here (short growing season) and curing it is a drag! :( To sell tobacco seedlings would be viable, but not growing and selling tobacco!

  12. Thanks, Granny - was wondering what your thoughts would be! I've only seen tobacco grown in my hometown by huge farming operations, but it sure didn't look easy.

  13. Watermelon and pumpkins are not too hard to grow and are pretty polular and easy to sell. I'm trying some watermelons this year that get to 200 pounds. If they work out I plan to sell them at a local fall sale/pumpkin patch

  14. when the weather gets good i plan on using my whole porch on my apartment to grow a garden of tomatoes to selll for extra spending money(beer money im in college lol) im sure my landlady is gunna be real happy with me on this one lol

  15. ^ Make sure you have big deep pots and a big enough cage for them to grow up. Once they hit the point you can't reach keep the plant trimmed so it doesn't keep growing.

  16. Make sure water doesn't cause any damage to porch because you might get sued for damage.

  17. im not worried bout it they are already keeping my deposit cuz i spilled bleach on the carpet on accident

  18. Thanks for all the input!

Question to tobacco growers: how much yield can you expect in terms of say packs of cigarrets?

I'm.going to definatly try to sell organic seeds. No matter what I grow I can save the seeds.

    I like the pesto idea.

I might try home made tomato sauce. It stores longer then tonatos increasing how much I can sell without it going bad.

The farmers market idea seems too big scale. I don't know how it works but.my yard is small. Can you just sell a few bundles of carrots? Seems like a bad investment for a small time grower.

That sucks about the tobacco. Sounds like a lot of work. But if you can sell it for good money it could be worth it.

I'm not super worried about legality. I'm avoiding weed because of smell.
