Using random seeds

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by JayBlizzle, Jan 6, 2013.

  1. I haven't started growing...yet. But the time is near. My seed supply has been collected from various baggies over the last few months so your guess is as good as mine as to what kind of seeds they are...I just know they're mj seeds. So am I getting in over my head by using these seeds? Am I asking for a lot of lost time or added stress by using random seeds? Thoughts?

  2. u can use em just toss
em if they end up being males

  3. Nah, bagseed is perfectly fine. I've never bought a seed in my entire life and check out my journal in the sig.

You put the time and love in, you'll get quality product.

You have to be ruthless with the males though... They all must die.

  4. I think paying something in the neighborhood of $8-$10 dollars per seed before you've got the experience of growing out some "bagseed" and having your grow in order causes more stress than a "bagseed" grow going bad. I will however strongly recommend you do your homework before germinating anything.

  5. That's about what I was thinking, too. But I figured what the hell do I know? The only seeds I've ever sown are the ones that resulted in my children.

Def doing my homework, and I've got a lot to learn still. A couple of the seeds are separated from the rest since they came from bags of other-than-schwag weed. Couldn't tell you what strain since I got them from my weed dude. I'm hoping at least one of them is female.

  6. Growing random seeds will give you random results, but it's a great way to learn. Instead of just starting with a fem seed, you will have to watch for males, watch for hermies, determine if it's indica or sativa. IMO those are all good things to learn before you invest a lot of money on a grow.

If you plan on having a fairly down to basics grow, I'd run the bagseeds for sure. If you are going to invest a lot of money into grow equipment, nutes and soil, I'd get good seeds to go with it.

  7. Agreed! Those are exactly the things I still need to learn, and what better way than trial and error, right? Don't they sell little handheld magnifiers that can be used for checking sex early on?

My plan is to go as organic as possible. I've been looking up soil recipes, amendments, etc. and I liken it to learning a new language. Everything else is as DIY as I can make it, minus blowing the glass for light bulbs or anything...it's going to be a homemade cabinet contraption that I'll use for veg and flower until I get the hang of this thing. If it works out I can expand after that.

  8. A friend just came back from a road trip to Red Wood Forest, California - Canada and back and brought some seeds from a bit of places, hope they work out for me, and no males :)
