Using potting soil bag as a pot?

  1. I read something the other day in an old book talking about cutting holes in the top and bottom of a bag of good soil and placing it on the ground upright and planting directly into the bag. Anyone ever try this?
  2. I've wondered this myself, I think its worth a shot.

Course I can't test it now, all my stuffs already set up lol.
  3. Interesting. Sure seems like it would work, but sometimes the plastic is frayed on the bags the soil comes in. Plant bags are inexpensive and do the job well enough I suppose, but yeah, it's definitely worth a go.
  4. If you want to be really mean, why not?
  5. that is a common technique for some urban tomato growers. they just cut an X in a bag of soil and put their sets right in it.
  6. Try to get some pots or holes instead esp. if this is a guerilla grow (pots to move around and soil to get max yield and comfort (fresh at bottom), stealth for holes. You could also dig in the smaller pots in holes to keep them fresh. A bag can be ripped too and can be visible. Hard to transplant and if the bag moves, the roots will be damaged badly.
