hey guys.. ok so i just started making my own bio-diesel for my truck and a by-product of making bio-diesel is glycerin.i kno glycerin can be used in your soil after it is composted.my question is how much should i mix with my compost pile, i have about 2 gallons of glycerin right now and will have about 45 gallons once this batch is done in 24 hrs..
go to the mother earth news website. they have a lot of great articles on bio-diesel (and all other manner of green, self-sufficiency, how-to's). I don't specifically recall an article that discusses composting by-products of the bio-diesel process but if it's to be done I think those folks would have the low down on it. Good luck and happy at ya going green brother! Rock et!
I don't know how you processed your oil but when i've made biodiesel (only a few times) I used methanol. I wouldn't risk putting any left over methanaol near anything that could be near my mouth as very small amounts of it are highly toxic. The left over glycerin makes for a great fire starter though, I've always burned it in fire place.
