using fluro ballasts for HID???

  1. Hello to all. I recently asked about converting an MH ballast into an HPS ballast yourself. While doing my research I ran into something strange. I found a video of someone using fluro ballasts wired in parallel along with a makeshift ignitor to power an MH bulb.

    The circuit diagram that he shows in the beginning is available here as well.

  2. this, off the top of my head...seems like such a bad idea on so many levels.

  3. It didn't seem smart to me at all, but it seems like this guy kind of has his circuitry down. He ends up supplying the right amount of wattage to the bulb, but he has this makeshift igniter made out of a 12 volt fluro ballast, that must be pulse start. You have to supply 2.5kV to a light to ignite it and i don't know how he is igniting it, and if it is proper, because otherwise it is a fairly smart idea.

    But i think this guy is being a little reckless :)
