I'm starting a new thread to address this issue, mainly because I'm not seeing very many photos or information on it. EM-1, Also known as Effective Microorganisms, (in my case) was made from rice water following directions on this website. How to make your own EM-1 Introducing this to your plants medium (I've even read water culture) assists in adding beneficial microbes. The issue I currently have is slime buildup from the addition of EM-1 to water. The addition to water itself seems to do nothing but produce a filmy layer atop the water. Using this in a aerocloner seemed to make a slime that covered clone bottoms, container sides, and all over the air bubbler. Using this water in a pair of shot glasses (in total darkness) produces slime that covers the seed, in particular the radicle. I'm curious as to whether this is doing harm, or good in these scenarios. Especially since my current grow was also watered with these microbes twice in the past week. The first is the water bucket. See the film on the top? Don't worry about the darkness as it's just soil that i spilled in there a few days back. The rest are the two seedlings that can faintly be seen with this slime.
Good work, in my opinion anything that can restrict seedlings coming in contact with H2o is a bad.. things including bugs. "V"
But can we make the determination whether or not the EM-1 is itself the issue? Is it actually attacking said seeds/plants because there is no food available? Can we use EM-1 in water culture? Is there actually a benefit? These are questions that are beyond my knowledge but can only assume. I've since washed them and planted in soil awaiting the heads to pop out.
