using cocopeat for the first time

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by jasem, Nov 26, 2018.

  1. what are the significant differences that I should know of between soil and coco grow?
ph of the water should be 6 right?

it says on the plastic that coco's PH is between 5.5 and 6.8. is it good? Does it have the PH buffering property like soil?
I ran out of potting soil and I was thinking of planting my seedlings in coco this time.
Should I also have 20-30 run off water at each watering/feeding?

This damn brick is waay too big and hard though. separating enough of it is a pain in the ass <_<

  2. You are going to want to rehydrate and rinse the shit out of that brick. I buy Royal Gold Tupur now and that’s it. A lot of brick coco is super salty so have a ppm meter in hand to check.

After rinsing you’ll want to mix in 30-50% coarse or chunky Perlite (not miracle grow).

Then soak with 1/4 strength nute with full strength cal mag to buffer.

That’s it. Start in solo cups, feed daily to 20% runoff, use smaller pots to feed more often and watch them take off

  3. The seedling that I wonna transfer is in soil, and bunch of others are in peatmoss. considering that they have different rates of drainage, wouldn't watering be problematic?

should I have the 20% run off and feeding at the seedling stage too?
Also, this seedling is planted in soil and other are planted in peatmoss, considering that they have different drainage rates, would watering and drainage get more complicated?

The PH of the water that I re hydrate the brick with, is important right? cuz my tap water PH is 7/5.
The only way that I can use this coco is to rehydrate all of this giant brick right?

  4. Unless you can break a chunk off, you’ll probably have to do the whole thing. Yes ph should be at 6.0 to buffer but you should feed a range of 5.7-6.3 ph.

You may have a tough time with mixing the mediums mid grow but you’ll find out I guess
