I wanted something to do today, so I Googled where to find a used bookstore in my area. I know a couple, but they're pretty well picked over. Found this chain of booksellers called Used Book Superstore. The chain store concept and the slick website design made me wary, but in describing their inventory they mentioned that they had antique books, Well, I'm in. I checked out the Danvers location and it blew me away. They had the usual selection of garbage, but there were shelves and shelves of old books that were fascinating. I picked up three volumes of Time-Life's Old West series (The Texans, The Canadians, The Expressmen), so now I have 19 of them. Also got Percy's Reliques of Ancient Poetry (1880) in a very nice gold stamped binding, Tom Swift and his Great Search Light (1912) which is sort of a juvenile sci-fi novel, a New Standard Year Book for 1939 which is like an encyclopedia of the year 1939 with important dates, figures, statistics and stuff, and another book called What Will He Do With It? by Lytton (1874) that appears to be a novel (looking closer at the title page it's the second of two volumes but volume one wasn't with it). But the best part is that for vintage books, they're $1.99 for paperbacks, $2.99 for hardcovers. Across the board. My entire haul was $22.24 with tax.
I love going to those places I stack up on books big time! Ill spend like 50.00! I love having a huge selection of books, I need another book shelf even they are stacked up around my room.
Picked up eleven books for about $35 today Including three Franklin Library leather bound editions that would have probably sold for $150 as a lot on eBay Got some nice cloth bound mystery novels, a book about Rome from 1909 with a great binding I am going to haunt the F out of this bookstore
I love used book stores, much like 3am I need more shelves for books at this point. It's great to have a set of books ready to go instead of having to wonder what book you want when you finish your last one.
nice, i love me cheap books I often pay either nothing or very little for boxes full of books. Couple weeks ago I picked up the (complete) Harper's Library Edition of Mark Twain's Works for $5 and laughed all the way home.
Picked up Clive Barker's Sacrament yesterday at a used book store. Very good condition, $6 hardcover.
