Im getting a new phone I had a blackberry pearl but dropped it in the toilet so now its broken for sure I am eligible to get a new phone through at&t, so heres the situation I have unlimited texting through a family plan but no data minutes at all my parents cant afford to add data minutes and I cant afford to pay it myself either I was looking at some of the phones with wifi and I had a couple questions can I get on the internet on a smart phone through wifi with out having a data plan? Im looking at the Nokia E70x, Samsung Epix, Blackberry Curve 8320, or the 8GB iPhone 3G I go to a big college with wireless internet everywhere so if I could get one of these phones and just connect to the wifi without changing my plan thatd be awesome I know at&t is lame about smart phones and not having a data plan though can anyone help clear this up?
well i know blackberry's and iphones are out of teh question because unless you buy the phone unlocked off like craigslist or something you need to pay for interent for these phones. I hve a blackberry bold and i can't connect to wifi without being connected to 3g at teh same time, so the only way to use wifi with the blackberry's is if you turn of the network connection, which is kinda stupid because then you cant use phone/text. Some of the older blackberry's though like the 8820 allow you to use the wifi without connecting to the edge network if im not mistaken, so if i you really want another blackberry i would look around on craigslist. The Iphone requires you to sign to some contract that i heard is terrible overpriced something like 60 dollars a month. But if you can buy one off craigslist you can proable get one for pretty cheap. My friend bought one for 60 dollars and now uses it as his ipod, im not sure if you can actaully use the phone as a phone without the data plan and shit. and i have no idea about the other two phones
