Upgrading my computer.

  1. Okay I have a dell xps 600 computer I have a Pentium D processor 2 gigs ddr2 ram. And a nvidia gforce 6800 video card. I usually have trouble playing most modern games as the graphics lag. I can play Call of Duty Modern warfare 1 and 2 no problems as well as bf2.The processor I have, is the highest that can be supported by my motherboard. Now since I have a Dell, I don't think I can easily upgrade the motherboard. The best solution would to be to build a new computer but I don't have any funds right now for that many parts.

I know that my motherboard supports bridge. So that I can add a another graphics card, but I don't know how much it will improve my performance if I'm still using an older processor and lower ram. would I be able to make any upgrades that would improve my performance enough? or am I pretty much screwed lol

  2. Build a new one. People here can help

I would love to build one but I dont have a job so no money. I might be able to get a few parts for Christmas but probably not enough for a computer. Its not that I don't know how to build one lol I'm just not sure if there's anything I can do in my situation.

  4. You can get a job. Problem solved.

  5. Haha harsh but good advice. There's really not too much you can do with such an outdated motherboard

  6. I wouldn't go buying another graphics card for that machine, you're going to have need a new machine to play the newer games.

You can buy a used games console for cheap these days, I'd get one of those and save up :smoke:

  7. What CPU do you have (speed)? What is your budget?

  8. I will have to get back to you on the CPU speed. No money but Im thinking I can get $200 worth of parts for christmas.

  9. Honestly you should just get a PS3 or Xbox 360.... The PC gaming world is for people with money to fuck with lol

200$ is about the price of my motherboard...

  10. Yeah I want to get an xbox 360. But I will always be partial to pc. I think some games are better when played on the comp and other games such as mortal kombat and sports games are better on a console due to the controls.

  11. Yea this is true, but like i said, shit is expensive for top of the line gaming parts now lol. even mid range is expensive. Nothing much you can really do with 200....

And i think you can use mouse and keyboard to play on xbox? im not sure....

  12. Meh, although Jumbo knows his stuff I would disagree!

Answer my processor speed question, damnit :smoke:

  13. Yes PC cost slightly more, but youre investing long term. A custom built PC that you take care of cab last you for YEARS with no need to upgrade.

Xbox's get red rings, slow, laggy, graphics sucks.

Ps3 tech sucks now too. No point buying a console right now newgen consolea are about to release

Not sure either, although I do know you can use an xbox controller on a computer. Well I figured 200 wouldnt be enough for a new comp. but figure I might be able to use it to upgrade certain components. If I were to buy another geforce 6800 and bridge it. how much of a performance gain do you think I will get? I tried playing the gta game that came after san andreas, but it lagged so much I couldn't play it.

  15. It probably wont be more than 30% performance increase...

  16. Initially, this bridging you are referencing to is called "SLI", Crossfire for AMD, for future reference... It's your money and your choice, but I would highly suggest to not do that at all. The 6xxx series is verrryyy old, since then they have created 8xxx, 9xxx, and gtx 4, 5, and 6 series's.. With your setup there is no question that an entire new rig would be required for PC gaming... Otherwise, (unless you get a job) you should probably buy a console to keep on gaming.. To give an example on how rough PC gaming is on your wallet, I spent $600 on two XFX Radeon HD 5850's roughly sometime around '09, and nowadays they go for maybe $50 ea. and work their assess off to barely compete with today's market of GPU's. Basically Gaming PC => Net worth

    I second both these,
Because in 2008 I bought a desktop for 1000 and then a graphics card (HD 4650) later and now the desktop all the parts together is what like 100 bucks? I'd wait it out and just go with the newer Gen consoles that are about to come out.

Until then, I'd say do some research and save up some money if your gonna go to the PC gaming

  18. Thanks for the help everyone. Hopefully I can get a job soon.

Well I would like to get a 360 but
even used there still pretty expensive.
