Upgrade and questions

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Catsoncannabis, May 23, 2019.

  1. howdy , so I just bought a mammoth 2x2x4.8 which is very nice since I have upgraded from a pc box (photo supplied but not really anything fancy) . Put my plant from the pc and its really small now lol . Excited to finish flowering the one lil plant I have right now and move on to the next .

Anyways I guess I'm curious if anybody else has light coming from the passive intake holes at the bottom , if so how do they block it . I was thinking of making a diy light trap , but I was hoping somebody else would have a better idea. it came with a Velcro flap that seals it so I don't really think that will help for air intake .

Also I'll be grabbing the fan and filter for the tent soon . The fan the store that I went to recommends is 80cfm . It's a duct fan (not a booster tho) so it's not an inline . I'm wondering if this should be enough power to go through a small filter and still have negative pressure on the tent, hopefully also without having it at full power .

I guess one more thing , I'm using the hlg qb 96 v2 for lighting with the 185h-54a driver and I've seen people have little volt and amp meters hooked up to them so they can ye know , look at the volts and amps . Not amazing with electricity lol. If anybody knows it would be great to explain how and what it is and what to look for when buying .

    Thanks all for reading

    • V2 96? get a 4" fan that can suck the heat out of there. The 4" may cost more (not much) but its more versatile in the long run. Get one with a dimmer or install one yourself. Otherwise, I'd suggest just a booster (but that 96 will get hot!)
    • The light leak? idk, use the other vents or just box it up.
    • You can order the KNACRO DC 6.5-100V 20A unit from Amazon to monitor voltage/amp/hrs. They are not hard to wire at all.

  2. Thanks for the help, with the 4 " do you think I'd probally be able to have it on halfish power and get the job done while not being too loud ?

  3. that will be kinda up to which brand you buy. The vivosun I own was cheap and has a dimmer, but its loud. The Hon&Guan, which has a lower rating and cost more, moves more air and is much more quiet.
Just looking over Hon&Guan fans ...
you can get a 6" inline booster that moves 147CFM for $30CAD @37Db
    you can get a 4" inline fan for 116CFM for $75CAD @26Db.
I notice Vivosun didn't mention the noise level, go figure.

So cheap, moves air really good, small, but kinda noisy. Pay more, less air, smaller, but quieter.

  4. If you are getting a 4 inch fan buy the ac infinity s4 $89. Unbelievable. You wont know if its your first one how loud others are. You can set this so low it is un hearable, and turn it up very incrementally to proper speed. Oh so nice. The ac fans are in a league of their own, no comparison.
as for light leaks, the black newer furnace filters can be cut to size, allow air in and prevent most but not all escaping light and they stick really well to velcro.

  5. It does look like a nice fan indeed , you wouldn't happen to know if anywhere sells it in Canada ?

  6. hmmm, you can buy directly from ac, go the site and see if they have a canada connection, it is unlike any fan I have tried and my hearing is very sensitive. If noise is not an issue to you it may not be as appreciated.

  7. Y
yea I'm looking for something to keep a 2x2 vented with negative pressure while remaining silent .

  8. the basic grow room guide is 1 to 3 times cubic ft per minute. H x W x L=cubic ft so 2x2=4 times how high you are ha, ha

  9. Yea I read that too , expect they said 5 times a min. So 2x2x4.8 divided by 5 . Which is 3.84 , he recommend to double it for the filter , so I need like 8 cfm tops from those calculations. Does that seem right ? If so then I should definitely be able to go with the 80 cfm duct fan that I saw at the store correct?

  10. yes, 80 will be plenty. Noise is always the issue. it is cheap and easy to blow a lot of air. Carbon filter/fan is about the only place where the goal is to get by on as little as you can because there is nothing stealthy about a fresh smelling jet engine running in your house.

  11. Totally agree with you on the jet engine thing lol . I had them turn it on in the store and it was not too loud at full power , so maybe I could do that , or maybe I should get a 4 inch inline . Can't decide lol

  12. maybe its time to visit the local hardware store and check out what they have there. You can maybe even turn em on and decide then.

  13. If you go with the cheap one first and later decide on the ac you will have a spare and a drying fan. The noise is really the only difference. They all blow the same air.
